This invention relates to improvements in centrifugal liquid purifiers of that kind which are known as the plate type and which are characterized by coning or curving out the upper and lower walls of the bowl to form a In the course of experiments and working of apparatus of the land described I have found it desirable to increase the angles of J inclination towards the jets in order to ensure perfect clearance from the apparatus of dirt, as I have found that there is an angle in the apparatus on which dirt, will, as it were, slide on dirt, and this angle is not easy. to obtain by a construction or shaping of the interior walls of the apparatus alone, but by continuing the lead of the jets within the coned plates, which are usually slightly separated one from the other, I find that the desired angle or inclination to the jets at which the dirt will readily clear is obtainable. The faces of the angles of inclination should be as smooth as is possible.
Therefor my invention is in the nature of the construction and arrangement of inclines or leads in or in connection with the usual coned plates, combined with the leads to the outlet jets in every direction formed in the walls of the bowl or in a liner.
In describing my invention in detail ref erence is made to the accompanying sheet of drawings, similar letters indicating similar parts, in which,

To carry my invention into efiect, I construct a bowl of a centrifugal liquid separator substantially as described with reference to British specification No. 296,178 and employ the usual coned plates P with the additional construction substantially as hereinafter described. I
In the type of separator referred to, a slight space is provided between adjacent coned plates by the use of ribs or the like formed thereon, and as will be understood the cones and bowl revolve together, According to the preferred form of my improvements, the interior of the bowl or a liner therein is shaped to incline upwards and downwards as L Fig. 1, to suitable jets J in the major diameter of the bowl and depending on the number of ets employed (four usually being suflicient), a liner B will be provided to present a series" of solid faces B to the outer edges P of the coned plates and there willbe an angular lead indicated by L right and left of the jets to either side, therefore normally these angular leads will finish where they meet the faces I). In order to increase the leads and give a consequent greater angle andlarger face I provide the coned plates with inclines L leading towards the centre, which inclines form a continuation of the leads L in the walls or liner B of the bowl. The inclines L in the plates P need not meet in a point as shown by dotted lines at L Fig. 2, but may finish some little distance from the centre joining to a rib L having parallel or substantially so edges for some little distanceas will be seen in Figs; 2 and 3. The said ribs and in clines on the plates may be formed on one side, say the upper, of each coned plate P or be formed on two sides of alternate plates, the
remaining plates being unribbed. The improved shaped ribs will act as the necessary distancin pieces for the plates and will take the place of the usual spacing ribs.
In Fig. 4 I have shown a face, and, as it were, a flattened view of the liner showing the leads to the jets.
The construction and arrangement of shaped ribs on the plates, or on alternate plates, permits me to obtain a wide angled and long lead to each jet; the edges of such ribs should be as smooth as possible; By these means I am enabled to produce leads on which dirt will not lodge and consequent- 1y such dirt will be readily expelled. from the bowl and any tendency in continuous running of the apparatus for dirt to accumulate withinthe apparatus will be avoided. I
In a slightly modified form I may construct the inclines or leads as a whole in the liner B itself, forming the plates P after the usual manner and distancing them as hitherto but to assemble the parts it will be neces sary to cut the plates P away to permit the solid portions indicated by L in Figs. 5 to enter the plate system.
In the forms illustrated only four jets J, which have a very narrow bore, are provided, but I wish it to be understood that I do not confine myself to such number all so long as there is a lead in every direction to the jets and leads from the spaces between the plates 7 towards each jet.
I declare that what I claim is:
1. In a centrifugal action liquid purifier of the plate type, the combination of a bowl having unobstructed jets disposed in the major diameter thereof, said howl being shaped at its interior to give a lead in every dlrectlon to each of said ets, and leads d1s posed Within the plate system and forminga continuation of those formed in the bowl.
2. A centrifugal action liquid purifier of the plate type, comprising in combination, a bowl having a plurality of jet orifices, a liner in said bowl having leads in every direction toeach of said jet orifices, the side leads from each et in the liner being produced 111-. til they meet within the plate system toward the center thereof.
3. A centrifugal action liquid purifier of the plate type, comprising in combination, a
V bowl having a plurality of jet orifices, a liner in said bowl having leads in every direction to each ofsaid jet orifices, the side leads from each jet in the liner being produced until they meet within the plate system toward the center thereof, said plates being cut away to receive and embrace the lead members.
