This invention relates to garmentfsupporters and amongother objects, aims to provide an improved supporter adapted to be at-l tached to a shirt or waist to hold up trousers Aor other garments.
In the accompanying drawing,
Fig. 1 isa fragmentary,perspective view showing the preferred form of supporter applied to a Vshirt for supporting a pair of t trousers; j Y
Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the supporter;
Fig. 3 is asectional View showing how the fastener is applied to the shirt; f Fig. 4 is a vertical, central sectional view 16 showinghow the supporter .is applied Ato a trouser button. i t j Y Referring particularly to the drawings, the supporter there shown is in the form of a substantially rectangular plate 10 of stiff material having provision adjacent to both ends to be attached to a shirt or waist. For this purpose, the plate is provided with narrownecked slots 11 having relatively wide button openings near the bottom of the plate and arranged to receive cooperating fastener buttons 12 secured to the plate by means of flexible strips 13 which pass around the lower edges of the slots. The arrangement issuch that the buttons may be threadedthrough the slotsto engage a doubled portion of the shirt or waist and grip it in the manner shown in Fign.` A i Between thefbutton and slot fasteners there is shown an open buttonengaging slot .14 through the upper edge of the plate, theopening being` flared outwardly to facilitateeasy engagement with a button such as one of the suspenderbuttons on a pair of trousers. The lower part of thefrslot 14 is shown as 'being somewhat elongated lengthwise of the vplate to permit the button to slide back and forth incident to body movements of the wearer. The arrangement is such as to promote the comfort of the wearerk without causing his shirtto be twisted about his body due to walking movements orslight twisting action of the trousers or the like. Fig/ure 4L discloses the mode of attachment of the fastener to a suspenderL button as `j ust described. If it is desired to support other garments wearer. sers 1s then brought .over the button-receiving-L such assocks'or stockings by means of the I supporter, an ordinary elastic stra or band lmay be threaded through a suita le slot 16 arranged near the bottom of the plate; be-
tween the button and slot fasteners. To thef lower ends of the elastic strap or band there may be secured an ordinary ybutton and loop l fastener y17' to engage a sock or stocking, the
arrangement being such that the effective length of the strap may be adjustedby the; usual button slide 18 on the rear run of the strap. It will be understood that `one or more such supporting from each plate.V v n In applyingthesupporter to a shirt, the wearer first grasps a portion of the shirt at a point adjacent` to one of thel suspender but-` tons on his trousers andfolds the fabric so that the buttons712may engage behind the folded portion and Secure it within the narstraps may be suspendedy row neck portions of the slots, the buttons projecting forwardly through the slots so that theyk do knot Lcause any discomfort tothe The suspender button on the trouslot 14 and slipped into it so that it can work backy and forth in the wide lower portion of the slot. belowv the button-receiving portionY serves .to prevent the buttonfrom becoming accidentally disengagedfromthe slot incident to. body movements which slacken the trousers and tend to lift the button out. If the sock 'supporter is used in conjunction with the Obviously, the present invention is not restrictedtothe particular embodiment thereof herein shown and described. `l/Vhat- I claimL is The widened portion of the slot.
A garment supporter of the class described i Vand slot fasteners, said suspender button-receiving slot being flared outwardly at the up- -comprising, in combination, a substantiallyT i per edge of the plate and presenting a relatively wide bottom portion to permit movement ofthe suspender button longitudinally of the plate incident to the movements o the wearer. n
In testimon that I claim the foregoing e as my own, I ave heretoaxed my signature.
