Description

Oct. 21, 1930.
G. A. TRACHTE METAL JOINING STRIP Filed May 13, 1929 Patented Oct 21, 1930 PATENT orrica GEORGE A. TRAGHTE, F MADISON, WISCONSIN METAL aonvme srarr Application filed may 13,
This invention aims to provide novel means whereby insulation, or any other building material, may be held in place. The invention'aims, more particularly, to
provide a-novel means for engaging and holding the screws whereby the building material is held. I
It is within the province of the invention to improve generally and to enhance thev utility of devices of that sort to which the invention appertains.
With the above and other objects in view, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed may be made, within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 shows in front elevation a device constructed in accordance with the invention;
Figure 2 is a transverse section; Figure 3 is a perspective view of the anchor.
The device forming the subject matter of this application includes a metal anchor which, as a whole,.is designated by the nu meral 1. The anchor comprises a body including an outer wall 2 whichis'bent upon itself, as at, 3', to form an innerwall 4, the edges 5 of which are spaced apart and extended to form flanges 6 which outstand from the body, the flanges being disposed approximately at right angles to the body, although the flanges diverge as they extend outwardly, as shown in Figure 2. The flanges 6 are reversely bent to form inwardly-extending diverging wings 7, and a V- shaped entering throat'8 between the wings.
The numeral 9 marks two pieces of building material of any kind, such as insulation, or anything else. The pieces 9 of material have longitudinal seats 10 in their outer sur faces. The edges of the pieces 9 of material are spaced apart, as shown-in Figure 2. The body of the anchors rests across one 1929. Serial No. 362,749.
side of the pieces 9 of-material, and the flanges 6 and the Wings 7 lie betweenthe edges of the pieces of material. Against the outer surface of the pieces '9 of material is placed a clip 11, preferably made of a material having some resiliency, the edges of the clip 11 being inclined, as shown at 12,
so as to fit in the seats 10. Any desired number of screws 14: are inserted through holes in the clip 11. The throat 8 guides the screws between the wings 7, and as the screws are turned, they cooperate with the wings 7 and draw the clip 10 tightly in place, the pieces 9 of material being held securely between the clip 11 and the body of the anchor 1.
The device is simple in construction, but it will be found to be thoroughly effective for the ends in view.
What is claimed is 1. In a device of the class described, an anchor comprising a body and flanges outstanding from the body, a clip, a screw cooperating with the clip, the flanges having inwardly-extended wings with the edges of which the screw is engaged, the wings defining a throat which serves to facilitate the introduction of the screw between the edges of the wings.
2. In a device of the'class described, an anchor including an outer wall bent upon itself to form an inner wall overlapping the outer wall, the inner wall being provided at its edges with flanges, the edges of the flanges terminating in inwardly-extending wings, and a screw threaded between the inner edges of the wings.
3. In a device of the class described, an anchor comprising a" body and flanges outstanding from the body, the flanges having inwardly-extending wings. a screw threaded between the inner edges of the wings, and a clip t rough which the screw passes, the wings of the clip being'inclined toward the inner edges of the wings and toward the body of'the anchor.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto aflixed my signature. I
- GEORGE A. TRACHTE.
