rlhe object of my invention is to provide a fountain brush structure of simple, durable and inexpensive construction.

` More particularly, it is my object to provide a container and a brush supported thereby with means for ejectingithe contents of the container through the brush,

said device being of novel construction to facilitate inexpensive manufacture and assembling.

Vith these and other objects in View, my invention consists in the construction, arrangement and combination of the various parts of my fountain brush structure, whereby the objects contemplated are attained, as hereinafter more fully set forth, pointed out inl my claims, and illustrated in the accom panying drawings, in which:

Figure 1 is a perspective view of a fountain brush structure embodying my invention.

Figure 3 is a transverse, sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Figure 2.

Figure 4 is a large, sectional view illustrating certain of the details of the device; and

Figure 5 is a sectional view of the lower endL of a modified form of my device.

ln the accompanying drawings, l have used the reference numeral` 10 to indicate generally a cylindrical casingwhich is open at what may for convenience be called its lower end, and is open at' its upper end, except for a narrow fla-nge 11.

At the lower end of the casing 10, it is' provided with a folded over portion 12 forming an external rib. Spaced upwardly from the lower end of the casing 10 the casing is formed with an external rib 13 and an internal groove 14, the purposes of which will be hereafter referred to.

I provide a closure for the upper end and a .plunger and means for actuating the plunger, which will now be described.

nln the assembling of the device, a washer or gasket 22 is placed just inside the flange 11. The plunger 2O and disc 21 secured thereto in any suitable way are screwed onto the rod 15 until they are vadjacent to the collar 19.

The device is then inserted into the lower open end of the casing-10 and moved longitudinally of the casing untilthe closure disc 18 engages the packing 22 adjacent to the flange v11.- The casing is then filled with contents 23, which maybe shoe polish in the form of a paste or pasteof any other suitable character.

.I provide bristles 24 mounted in a shell 25, which is in the form of a cylinder having the closed end 26 except for the centralv opening 27. Y

The material of the end 26 is bent downwardly around the central opening to form an annular' flange, which is inclined slightly outwardly from its upper portion. The flangeis indicated at 28.V

Between the flange 28 and the outer wall of the shell 25 is formed an annular channel to hold the inner ends of the bristles.

At the lower end of the shell 25, the wall thereof is folded inwardly as at 29 to form an internal ribto direct the bristles inwardly to catch the material dispensed.

The wall of the shell 25 has opposite slight projections 30, as shown in Figure 4, adapted to lit into the groove 14 for holding the shell against accidental movement.

On the outside of the lower end of the casing 10 is mounted a sleeve 31 having its lower end open as at 32, as shown in Figure 1, and having its upper end in-turned to form the internal rib 83, which'slides on the casing 10 and is adapted to engage the rib 12 to prevent the accidental removal of the sleeve 31.

The brush may then be used for applying the paste to the shoes oi' for any other purpose for which the contents 23 are adapted.

It will be noted that l have provided a very simple structure for a device of this kind and l call particular attention to the construction which facilitates the assembling of the parts and mounting` them so that they may be readily disassembled.

It Will be seen that the device maybe taken apart by pulling out the shell 25 and thereupon the rod 15 With the plunger 2O and the closure member 18 assembled thereon can be shoved out through the lower open end of the casing.

Such changes may be made in the details of the structure of my device as do not depart from the essential features and spirit of my invention as (lehne-d in the claims, and it is my intention to cover by my claims, any modified forms of structure or use of mechanical equivalents, which may be reasonably included Within their scope For example, by the use of the terms brush or bristles herein, l intend to include an absorbent member, sponge or any device Which might for the purpose be equivalent to a brush or bristles.

ln Figure 5, l have shown a sponge 3l to replace the brush 24.

Likewise by the use of term paste, I would include liquids of any kind, Which may be appropriately used with my device.

I claim as my invention:

1. A dispenser of the class described com vably Vmounted in said disk and a piston,

screw threadedly mountedl on said rod whereby turning movement of said rod causes said piston to dispense material from said casing and maintains said disk tightly against said gasket and flange.

2, A structure of the class described coinprising a tubular casing, noncircular in cross section and having an iiiturned flange at its upperend, a disk adjacent said flange, u a gasket between said disk and said flange,

a piston actuating rod rotatably mounted in said disk, a collar on said rod adjacent said disk and a piston, scren7 threadedly mounted on said iod whereby turning movenient of said rod causes said piston to dispense material from said casing and said collar maintains said disk tightly against said gasket and flange. a

3. A structure of the class described Coinprising a tubular casing, an inturned flange at the upper end thereof, a disk Within said casing and adjacent said flange, a gasket between said disk and said flange, a piston actuating rod rotatably but nonslidably mounted in said disk, a collar secured to said rod adjacent said disk and a piston, screw tlireadedly mounted on said rod.
