Description
June 21,1921 x 1 s. A. WETZSTEIN 'MITTEN Filed Jun e 2:, 192a Inventor Attorney Patented June 21, 1927.
UNITED STATES GEORGE ADAMS WETZSTEIN, 0F MANDAN, NORTH DAKOTA.
Application'filed. June 23, 1926. Serial No. 118,033.
The present invention relates to improvements in mittens, and has for its principal object to provide a water proof mitten which may be used when washing by hand without any possibility of the water coming in contact with the hand.
Another important object of the invention is to provide a mitten of the above mentioned character which includes an elastic wrist band for enclosing the portion of the mitten which encircles the Wrist, thereby preventing the water from entering the interior of the mitten.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a water proof mitten of the above mentioned character wherein the same is provided with means adjacent the cuff edge thereof which will prevent the'water from dripping downwardly to the cuff of the sleeve of the person wearing the mitten.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a water proof mitten of the above mentioned character which is simple in con struction, inexpensive, strong and durable, and further well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing.
In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this application and in which like numerals designate like parts throughout the same:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the mitten embodying my invention, and
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken approximately on line 22 of Figure 1.
In the drawing wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 1 designates generally my improved mitten, the same comprising the front and back sections 2 and 3 respectively. These sections are formed of water proof material, such as canvas, duck, or any other similar fabric, and it is to be understood that I do not wish to limit myself to the particular material which is to be employed in constructing the present mitten. These sections are secured together along their edges as indicated at 4.
The mitten is provided with a cuif portion 5 which forms a continuation of the frontand back sections, and this cuff portion gradually increases in width towardsits outer edge. y
The mitten is provided with the fleece lining 6 in the manner clearly shown in-Figure 2.
For the purpose of preventing any possibility of any water entering the interior of the glove and coming in contact with the hand on which the mitten is worn, I provide the elastic band 7 which extends across the portion of the mitten which encircles the wrist. This elastic strip, however, will not interfere with the insertion or removal of the hand from the mitten.
For the purpose of preventing any possibility of water dripping downwardly from the mitten into the cuff of the sleeve of the wearer, while in use, there is, provided on the cuff portion 5 of the mitten the piping '8, the same being preferably located at a point adjacent the outer edge of the cuff portion 5 and this piping is secured to the cuff portion in any suitable manner.
A mitten of the above mentioned character is particularly adapted for use in washing automobiles and the like, and the material from which the mitten is formed, is of such a texture as to permit the hand to be readily and easily manipulated in the handling of a sponge. This mitten will not allow any water to come in contact with the hand of the user and therefore is particularly useful in washing various articles with cold water.
' The simplicity with which my improved mitten is constructed renders the same very inexpensive, yet strong and durable.
While I have shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that minor changes in the size, shape, and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention, and the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is r In a mitten formed of water proof material and comprising front and back sections,
the edges of which are stitcheq together, a
lining Within the mitten, an elastic strip eX- tending transversely across the back of the mitten at the Wrist encircling portion thereof, said elastic strip being stitched to the back section and extending for substantially the full Width thereof, for holding the portion of the mitten against the Wrist to provide a Water-proof joint, and piping extending around the cuff portion of the mitten adjacent the outer edge thereof to prevent Water from dripping downwardly into the cult of the sleeve of the wearer.
In testiinonv whereof I afliX my signature.
GEORGE ADAMS WETZSTEIN.
