0% TT'ORNE'Y Patented June 7, 1927.
UNITED STATES ERWIN J. JONES, OF ST. PAUL, MINNESOTA.
MOUTH CLEANING- .ANID MASSAGING DEVICE.
Application filed August 9, 1926. Serial No. 128,025.
My invention relates to a mouth cleaning and massaging device of a softer character than the ordinary tooth brushes. It may also be aptly called a mouth washing and 5 sponging device to take the place of a tooth brush where the gums and adjacent surfaces are tender.
- In the accompanying drawin Fig. 1' is a top or back view my device.
10 Fig. 2 is a section on the line 2-2 in fieferring to the drawing by reference numerals, 5 designates the handle and 6 the head of the device. The head is made of l5 porous spongy rubber and the handle is,
preferably of bone, ivory, wood, hard rubber or other suitable material. In Figs. 1 and 2 the front end of the handle has a downwardly directed longitudinal rib 7 formed 2 with a forward projection 8 and a rearward projection 9, all of which and even the adjacent part of the handle is forced down into a cavity 10 in the spongy head 6, where the projections 8 and 9 are snugly retained in cavities prepared for them in the sponge.
In, the use of the device, the sponge is dipped in or charged with water which may be suitably medicated, and then the gums and other parts in the mouth are rubbed with the sponge; in which action the sponge both washes and massages the mouth and its pores absorb and remove impurities which may afterward be washed out of the sponge.
I claim: In a cleaning device of the class described, 85 a handle, a porous sponge pad secured at one end of the handle and adapted to be used in a human mouth said. pad end of the handle having'a longitudinal rib extended at both ends so as to form two opposite projections, 40 said spongy head having a longitudinal cavity receiving said rib and the adjacent part of the handle, and said cavity having pockets in its ends for snugly receiving the said projections of the ribs.
In testimony whereof I afiix my sign aturo.
ERWIN J; JONES.
