This invention relates to head coverings and particularly to an improved lining for hats wherein substantially the usual appearance is presented while special means are a provided for carrying articles of difierent.

kinds.

The object of the invention is to provide a hat lining in which an article carrying structure is embodied as part of the lining.

Another object of the invention is to provide an article carrying pocket for hat linings positioned to normally present a central ornamental section to the lining.

Figure 3 is an enlarged fragmentary perspective view showing the central part of the lining illustrated in Figure 1', said view disclosing how the pocket structure may be opene 26 Referring to the accompanying drawing by numerals, 1 indicates a hat of any desired kind, as for instance, the usual kind worn by women having short hair and are usually fairly snugfitting. However, in most hats of this kind, the same engage the head at a distance below the top of the crown and are supported at the point of engagement so that the top of the crown is quite often supported above the head an appreciable distance. As

shown in the drawing, a lining is provided having the usual side wall member 2 connected. by suitable stitching 3 to the hatat the bottom of the crown. The side wall memher 2 extends upwardly to near the top of the crown and is supplied with a tip member 4 held in place by suitable stitching. Posit1oned upon the tip member 4 is an ornamental covering member 5 coextensive with the member 4 and held in place by a suitable line 5 of stitching 6 for approximately half of its perimeter, the side wall member, the tip member and the covering member being connected by a single seam. 'By reason of this way of securing the covering member 5 in place, a flap 7 is provided which may be opened as shown in Figures 2 and 3 so as to expose the space above the member 5 or below the same when the hat is inverted. The members 4 and 5 and associated parts form a perfectly concealed secret pocket in the lining as well as form part of the lining. A stud 8 is provided on the flap 7 said stud co-acting with the socket 9 for holding the fiap7 closed. This stud or socket is preferably an ordinary snap fastener though other forms of releasable securing means might be used without departing from the spirit of the invention.

Connected at or near the socket 9 and preferably at the crossing point 10 are straps 11 and 12. These straps may be ordinary ribbon, tape or elastic, and the free ends there of are secured by the same stitching that secures the members 2, 4 and 5 together. These straps are positioned as shown in order that if desired, a box of cosmetics, as for instance, face powder, may be slipped under strap 11 an other articles slipped under strap 12, as for instance, a comb, lipstick or the'like. In addition, money or other valuables might be positioned between the members 4 and 5, which sections with the associated parts, form a pocket capable of receiving an appreciable amount of money or other articles without unduly changing the appearance of the lining. As this pocket does not change the appearance of the lining materially and as it is adjacent the crown of the hat, the same is in a convenient place and also out of the way when not needed. In order to increase the pleasing appearance of the covering member 5 which may be silk or other nice appearing cloth, an ornamental rope or braid 13 is arranged at the edge of said member 5. i

What I claim is:

1. A hat lining comprising a tip member, a side wall member, and a tip covering member co-extensive with the tip member, said tip member, side wall member, and a portion of said covering member being connected in a single seam.

2. A hat lining structure as defined in claim 1, characterized by article holding straps extending between the tip and tip covering members, the free en'ds of said straps secured by the same stitching that connects the several members together.
