lt is also an object -of the invention to provide a device of this kind constructed in a manner to provide a substantially flat top and wherein said itop is constructed in a manner to permit-the rsame to beefi'ectively locked to side or vertical walls of the culvert.
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination andarrangement of the several parts of my imroved road culvert whereby certain important advantages are attained andthe device rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth. e
The novel features of my invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.
In order 'that my invention may be the better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference lto the accompanying drawings, kwherein Figure l is a view in perspective illustrating a culvert constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention and in assembled relation;

cordance with a 1.further embodiment of my invention.
As herein disclosed, my improved culvert comprises a plurality of bottom sections formed of suitable reinforced `cementitious material,the vend sections 1 .being veachof a length substantially equal to one-half of :the length ofthe intermediate sections la. The sections l andla are-provided along their side or longitudinallmarginal portions with .the upstanding pins'Q which are .adapted to be received within the recessesor sockets 3 ,provided in the lower edges of the side wall sections 4, said sections -4 being also preferably made from suitable cementitious material. It is to be particularly noted that the assembly ofthe -side wallsections 4 with respect to the bottom sections l is such that :the sections 4 lap adjacent sections l whereby a substantial'an'd rigid structure is assured.
The uppermarginal portion of each ofthe wall sections 4 midway its ends is provided with a recess 5 while the ends thereof Aare provided with the notches '6, each of lsaid notches 6 being substantially :equal :to onehalf of a recess 5. The base wall c of reach of the notches 6 .is provided with an upstanding pin 7 while the opposite end portions of the base wall b of the recess 5 are provided with the upstandingpins 7.
The culvert top also Ycomprises a plurality of separable sections formed of suitable -reinforced cementitious material with each of the end sections .8 of a length substantially equal to the length of an endbottom section l and each of the intermediate sections 8l of a lengthsubstantially equal to an intermediate bottom section 1*.
Each of the sections 8 or 8a has its side orlongitudinal marginal portions provided with depending flanges. 9 adapted to overlie the outer faces of the upper portions of the wall sections 4 when said top section is in applied position and disposed through each of said flanges 9 and the loverlying portion of a side wall are the holding bolts 10 to provide means for maintaining the top section in proper assembled relation. Each of the top end sections 8 is provided at its inner end with a transversely disposed reinforcing iiange or web 11 the extremities of which being adapted to be received in the forward portions of the recesses 5 provided in the sections 4 upon which the section 8 is mounted. The intermediate portion of this web or flange l1 is extended downwardly to provide shoulders 12 for close contact with the inner faces of the coacting wall sections 4 whereby said sections are effectively held against inward movement and the rigidity of the structure fur ther maintained.
The outer or opposite extremity of the top end section 8 is provided with a header flange 14 the lower marginal portion of which being provided with the recesses 15 to receive the base portions of the outer end notches (i, the intermediate wall c of each of said recesses 15 being provided with a recess or socket 16 to receive an upstanding pin 7 as carried by the base wall fi oi said outer recess G.
Each of the intermediate sections S is provided at its extremities with the transversely disposed depending reinforcing flanges or webs 1'1" the extremities of which are partially received in the inner punitions' of the recesses 5 of adjacent wall sections 4 and are provided with the shoulders 18 having close contact with the opposed faces 'of the sections 4.
The central portion of each of' the intermediate top sections 8 is also provided with a transversely disposed bracing flange or web 19 of a width to be snugly received within notches 6 at the adjacent or meeting ends of the wall sections 4 and also provided with the shoulders 2() for close contact with the opposed faces of said sections.
The extremities ot the flanges 11, 17 and 19 are provided with the recesses or pockets 21 to receive the remainder 'of the pins 7 and 7.
To further hold the top sections in assembled relation the adjacent flanges 1.1 and 17 have disposed therethrough the holding bolts 22.
In the embodiment of my invention as illustrated in Figure 10, an end top section 8 has its header flange 14 separately formed which is of material advantage in transportation and assembly. This sepa rable header flange 14 is provided adjacent its opposite ends with the outstanding` flanges 9 which are adapted to be bolted to the adjacent side wall sections 4 while the intermediate portion of said header flange is adapted to be bolted to a depending flange 17 carried by the adjacent end of the section 8 proper.
JFrom the foregoing description it is thought to be obvious that a road culvert constructed in accordance with my invention is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled and operated, and 'it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible vof some change and modification without departing from the principles and spirit thereof' and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying 'out my invention in practice except as hereinafter claimed.

2. A culvert comprising a bottom wall7 side walls having recesses in their upper marginal portions, a top wall resting upon the side walls, said top wall being provided thcrealong with depending transversely disposed reinforcing fianges, the flanges being received within the recesses of the side walls, said top wall being sectional, and means for connecting a flange of one section to the flange of an adjacent section.
