' OPENER.
Application filed October should it be desired to open a jar or bottle,
wherein it is necessary to relicve the vacuum to facilitate the opening thereoi A still further object of the invention is the provision of an opening so constructed that it may be adapted for use in connection with jars or bottles of various sizes.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangerhent of parts and in the details of Construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.

Stamped from the body ortio'n is a finger 8 that is inclined forwa'r ly and rovided with a pointed extremity 9 dispose at right angles to the body of the finger defining a shoulder 10.

Thusit will be seen that due to this construction, the device may be fitted over the 'cap of various sized bottles or jare. i
These fin ers 8 and 11 are arranged in i spaced relaton with the forward end of. the
body portion so that the forward end of the body portion may rest on the topof the cover or closure to permita prying action.
The reference character 14 indicates a spur or prongadapted to' pierce the cover providng an opening to relieve the vacuum 'within the bottle or jar being opened to permit the cover to be readily removed. 7
' As shown by Figure 2, the device is positioned over the cover or` closure to be removed in-such a way that the finger willengage the cover, the shoulder of 'the fin ger Contacting with the cover which is indicated at A. Upon an upward movement of the handle portion 6, the cover will be lifted from the bottle or 'jar', theopener in no" way .touching the glass of which the bottle or jar is formed to chip or break the same.
The outer end of the body portion is tapered as at 15 to permit the device to be used in lids.
I claim A can opener including a bodyportion embodying a handle portion and a substantially wide portion, a prong tamped from the wide portion a finger stamped from the wideoportion and extending from the wide portion in the same direction as the prong, said finger being longer than the prong and disposed in spaced relation with the prong and the free ture.
