Description

Dec. 1.8, 1928. 1,695,311
1.. c. YOUNG PIPE VI SE STAND Filed Sept. 23, 1925 [NVENTOE H7- TOP/VZ'Y Patented Dec. 18, 1928.
LEE C. YOUNG, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI, WESTERN WIRE- PRODUCTS COMPANY,
OF MISSOURI.
AssreivoR, BY MESNE ASSIGNMENTS, T0 or en Louis, MISSOURI, A CORPORATION Prrnvrsn s rewn.
Application filed September This invention relates generally to plumbers tools and devices. More particularly, my present invention relates to a certain new and useful improv ment in plumbers equipment of the type commonly known as pipe-vise stands and has for its primary object the provision of an inexpensive, compact, durable, and lent collapsible vise-stand that may with equal facility and convenience be collapsed for portability or set up for use.
And with the above and other objects in view, my present invention resides in the novel features of form, construction, arrange ment, and combination of parts hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.
in ene accompanying drawings,
Figure 1 is an elevational view of a col lapsible pipe-vise stand embodying my inven tion, in setup position for use;
Figure is an enlarged fragmental elevational view, partly in section, of the stand,
taken approximately at right angles to Figure 1; and
Figure 3 is an enlarged fragmental plan View of the stand. 7
Referring now more in detail and by refer ence characters to the drawing, which illustrates a preferred embodiment of my invention, 1 designates the top-member or head of the stand, which is preferably a plate-casting of more or less skeleton form, as best seen in Fig. 2.
Integral with or otherwise fixed rigidly to, and depending from the under-face of, plate or head 1, is a pair of suitably spaced parallel ears 22, and also integral with, or otherwise fixed rigidly to and depending at right angles to ears 2 from the under-face of, plate or head 1, is a second pair of suitably spaced parallel ears 33. It will be noted that, for purposes presently appearing, the several ears mentioned are spaced inwardly from the margin of the plate or head 1.
Having their upper ends disposed between, and for swingable movement relatively to plate 1 pivotally connected by separate or individual bolts 1, 5, to, the ears 2-2, is a pair of suitably elongated legs 6, 7, respectively, and likewise having its upper end disposed between, and similarly for swingable movement relatively to plate 1 pivotally connected by a third separate or individual 23, 1925. Serial No. 58,098.
bolt 8 to, the ears 33, is a third suitably elongated leg 9. i v g V Bolted or otherwise fixed to and upon the upper face of the plate or head 1, is a pipevise 10 of any standard or approved construc: tion, and also fixed upon the upper face of plate 1, is a V-shapedl-ug 11 for supporting a pipesection in threading operations and an areuated litig'lQ for facilitating pipe-bending operations.
It will be evident that, by reason of the individual pivotal connection between the several legs 6, 7, and 9 and the plate 1, the several may be readily swung together to facilitate convenient portability of the stand or in a like manner may be spread apart.
or swung outwardly relatively to each other, and to limit such outward swingable movement of the several legs, the plate 1 has integrally or otherwise rigidly depending from its under face and at its margin a plurality of bracket-arms 13, 1 1-, 15, each bifurcated or forked, as at 16, at its lower or free end and each suitably presented inwardly relatively to the margin of, and arcuately disposed under, plate 1 to present its forked end 16 for individual engagement with the respective legs 6, 7, and 9. It will further be evident that, when the legs 6, 7, and 9 are spread outwardly and individually engaged bythe several bracket- arms 18, 14, 15, the said arms function also as reinforcing braces for the head, particularly at its margin, and thus a. firm, rigid stand for the head 1 and its carried vise 10 is provided. Preferably each of said legs is provided at its lower or free end with a projecting prong 17 for detachable gripping or non-slipping engagement with a floor or other support and also with a foot 18 for convenient bolting, if desired, to the floor.
I am aware that changes in the form, construction, arrangement, and combination of the several parts of my new pipe-vise stand may be made and substituted for those herein shown and described without departing from the nature and principle of my invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a stand for pipe-Vises and the like, a head in the form of a fiat plate, a pair of spaced ears depending from the under face of the head, a second pair of spaced ears depending from the head and disposed at right angles to the first pair of ears, a first leg pivotally connected only to the first pair of cars, second and third legs each pivotally connected to the second pair of cars and disposed in opposed relation, and a plurality of arcuate bracket-arms integrally depending from the head and each having a biliarcated free end presented inwardly relatively to the margin of, and disposed under, the head for individual engagement with the respective legs for limiting the outward swingable movement of the legs relatively to the head.
2. In a stand for pipe-Vises and the like, a head in the form of a fiat plate, a plurality of supporting-legs pivotally attached at an end to and upon the under face of the head for swingable movement, the points of attachment of the legs to the head being spaced inwardly from the margin of the head, and. bracket-arms depending from the margin of the head for engagement by the legs for reintorcingly bracing the head.
3. In a stand for pipe-Vises and the like, a head in the form of a fiat plate, a plurality of supporting-legs pivotally attached at an end to and upon the under face of the head "for swingalcle movement, the points of attachment ol' the legs to the head being spaced inwardly from the margin of the head, and arcuate bracket-arms depending from the margin of the head and biit'urcated at their free ends for engagement by the legs for reintorcingly bracing the head.
i. In a stand for pipe-Vises and the like, a head in the form of a flat plate, a plurality of supporting-legs pivotally attached at an end to and upon the under face of the head for swingable movement, the points of .attachment oi' the legs to the head being spaced inwardly from the margin of the head, and arcuate bracket-arms depending from the margin of the head and each having a bit'urcated free end presented inwardly relatively to the margin of and disposed under the head for ei'igagement by and with the respective legs for both reinforc-ingly bracing the head and limiting the outward swingable movement oil? the legs relatively to the head.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification.
