, Disposedadjacent the pump rod 4 are spaced supports 5 in bearings in the upper ends of which are rockably mounted the pintles 6 of the walking beam 7. The walking beam 7 1s elongated as clearly shown in Figure 1, and has its ends provided with segmentally shaped members 8 and 9, which i I members are concentrically arranged in relat on to each other, and the ends of the beam 7 are preferably formed integral with the members 8 and 9 intermediate their ends.
Members 8 and 9 are braced in relation to .the beam 7 by the brace arms 10, thereby .formmg a rigid structure. Secured at 11 to the upper end of the segmentally shaped member 7 isa flexible member 12, which flexible member extends over the rounded corner 13 of the upper end of the segmentally shaped member 8, and through the ooves 14 in the outer penphery of the mem er 8, whereby during the rocking of the walking beam 7 said cable v will be at the same distance from the center of the walking beam 7 whereby the weight 15 carried by the lower end of the cable will exert a uniform pull on the beam at all times. Bfytplroviding the space between the lower end 0 e segmentally shaped member 8 and 9, it will be seen that the weight 15 may move into said space during the oscillation of the beam 7, thereby allowing a relatively short flexible member 12 to be used. It will be noted that the lower end of the groove 14 is pro-- vided with a rounded shoulder 16 which will 22 which extend through clamps 23 carried by the piston rod 4, and which clamps may be adjusted upwardly or downwardly for takmfilup any slack which may develop in the ca es 18 and 19. It will be noted that the cables .18 and 19 by extending through the grooves 21 will always be in a plane parallel to the plane of the pump rod 4, and will always be in the same plane, as the segmentally shaped member 9' is moved during the oscillation of the beam 7. Beam 7 may be oscillated in any suitable manner. i
From the above it will be seen that a walking beam is provided which is particularly the stufiing box and insuring a maximum eflicieney of the pump.
