' GARMENT HANGER.
Application filed August 23, 1927. Serial No. 214,809."
This invention relates to a garment hanger, and its object is to provide a device of this character which will support a coat, or similar article of apparel and hold same suspended in such a way as to prevent its wrinkling, or losing its proper form or appearance.- v It is further designed to fold in a neat 'recepatcles, or for putting ina convenient place when not in use.
Novel forms of construction for the accomplishment of the aforesaid objects are shown in the*' accompanying drawings, and
these together with otherobjects and -advanview of a snap catch which may be applied at the top of the hanger joint.
Fig. 6 shows another arrangement of the wire elements employing a double form of constructiom i Fig. 7 shows a front view of the parts illustrated in Figure 6.
Fig. 8 shows a top view ofthe parts shown in Figure 7 V Referring first to Figure 1 of the drawings, the device comprises right and left shoulder members as seen at 10 and'll, these are preferably made of wood, but may be of any suitable material. At their inner ends they are connected by the hinge 12 wiiich' is supproper gauge and is provided with a loop 14, a bridge piece 15 and spreading guide bending the side wires back from their extremities to positions parallel to their outer parts, thus providing in each member an elongated space as seen at18 and 19. The said guide. members are secured together at their ends by a connecting member 20, which may be welded, or otherwise secured thereto.
The supporting'frame 13 is slidably secured to the shouldermembers by the pivot screws 21 and 21' which are provided with rollers as will be hereinafter described, and
with washers as seen at 22 and 23 which met against the, guide members. The form of the aforementioned rollers is illustrated in Figure 4 at 24. It provides ease of movement when it is desired to close, or to open' the hanger..
A snap catch as shown in the enlarged fragmentary view in Figure 5, may be applied at the top of the shoulder joint if de,
sired. As illustrated, it comprises a spring leaf 25 which is secured to a shoulder memher by the pin 26. A hole as indicated at 27 engages astud 28 which is driven into the adjacent shoulder member. The joint may be released by lifting the leaf by the tip 29.
Another form of the invention is shownin Figures 6, 7 and 8, in which the supporting frame is of double construction and engages both sides ofthe shoulder members. This construction is as follows. The outer wires of the guide members which will here be numbered 30 and 31, extend upward to a point under the ring- 32 where-they are bent inward and around the shank 33. The corresponding wires of the opposite guide members as seen at 34 and 35, extend upward in a similar manner and are bent around the shank adjacent to those first-mentioned. The
said shank 33 is integral with the ring 32 and has a washer 36 a ove its upset end. 1t will be seen that the ring thus attached is free to swivel within the joint. A hook may be substituted for this ring if preferred.
While I have shown the invention in its preferredjforms, I do'not wish to. be held rigidly to the exact details of construction as illustrated-,Ibut claim the right to such minor modifications as may' come within the scope of the appended claims. Y 2
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Let-- ters Patent, is as follows:
a garment hanger, apair of shoulder members hingedly connected at their inner ends and adapted to bear. against each other above-the point of the said. hinged connection, a supporting frame of inverted Y formation having guide elements rovided with elongatedopen spaces clos at their lower extremities, andflang'ed pivot members passing through the said. o en spaces and bearing. freely against the sides of the said guide elements, means to at their lower .their inner extremities and adapte connection, a supporting frame of suitable wire material formed with a loop elementat the top and connected by a bridge mein-.
ber below the said loop and extending below the said bridge member in inverted Y formation having the lower elements thereof loo ed'aroundat their ends and extending bac ward in positions arallel to theirouter parts thus forming e ongated ,open spaces which converge at' their upper extremities,
, and a connecting piece between the extremities "of the said lower elements, and-the said supporting frame secured to the aforesaid shoulder members by means of pivots passing'through the said op'ensfpaces andv having rollers; around the shanks thereof which f' the sides ofthe aforesaid lower'elements' 1 3. In a garment hanger, suitably formed shoulder members hin ed together at their inner ends and adapte to bear against each other above this point of connection, a supporting frame of invertedY formation slidably secured to the said shoulder members by means. of flanged pivots passing through open spaces in the legs thereof, and a snap catch in'the formof a leaf spring secured to one of the said shoulder members near to the. point of its contact with the opposite member, and the said leaf spring provided with a hole adapted to engage a stud in the adjacent shoulder member, substantially as s shown and described. s
4. In a garment hanger, suitably formed shoulder members hingedly connected at their inner extremities and adapted to bear against each other above the point of connection, a supporting frame slidably sevcured to the said shoulder member and the said frame of the following Construction, front'and back elements each inthe shape of an inverted Y and formed of suitable wire material, the downward depending legs of the said front and back elements each having an elongated openingbetween the side members thereof and each leg being secured to its adjacent shoulder member by means of a flanged pivot imbedded in the said member and bearing freely against the said leg, and the said front and back elements joined together at the top means of looped portions bent around the shank of a swivel supporting element, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I have affiXed my signature.
