Description

Jul 10, 1928. 1,676,711
E. A. REAP CAN Filed Sept. 27, 1926 Qwuemtoz hatented duly ll), 1928.
UNITED -reur- CAN.
Application filedcSeptembel 27, 1926. Serial No. 138,002.
This invention relates to can or bottle construction, and aims to provide means whereby air may enter the can orbottle adjacent to the upper side thereof when the can or bottle is being held for pour1ng, to the end that the air will displace the l1qu1d, allowing the liquid to flow in a steady stream. 7 v
Another object of the invention 1s to provide a removable closure for bottles, ars or the like, the closure being equipped with tubes of a novel construction to facilitate the pouring of the liquid from the container.
VV ith the foregoing and other ob e cts 1n view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the comb1- nation and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made w1th1n the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit ofthe invention.
Referring to the drawing: Figure 1 is a plan view of a can equipped with a discharge opening and spout constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on line 2-2 or Figure 1. y
Figure 3 is a longitudinal sectional view spout.
The length of sheet metal extends diagonally across the under surface of the top of the can as illustrated by Figure 1, the slde indicates a can, which edges thereof being secured to the under surface of the top, the inner end thereof lyfng'in spaced relation with the can to allow air to pass into the can. 7
Thus it will be seen that when the can is tilted to cause the liquid contained therein" to discharge through the spout 6, air will enter at a point adjacent to the upside of the can displacing the liquid held within the can. 7 V I In the form of the invention as illustrated by Figure 3, the reference, character 8 designates a removable screw cap for a rice.
t *it'zsau jar or the like, the same being provided with I a central opening in which the tube 9 is positioned. "This tube9is divided throughout a port on of its length by means of the partition 10, the partition 10 extending to a. 1
point adjacent to the bottom of the jar as clearly illustrated by the drawing. opening 11 is formed in the inner end of the partitioning member and afiorcls means of terior of the jar.
Thus it will. be seen that a jar'equipped from the jar, owing'to the fact that air may enter the jar at the bottom thereof.
I claim:v
communication between the tube 9 and in- Inareceptacle for containing liquids, a
body'portion having a threaded mouth, a threaded cap for closing the mouth of the within the cap, and extending into the body portion, one side of the tubular member being cut away froma point adjacent to body portion, a tubular member secured ing the upper portion of the tubular memher into lateral compartments, and said partitioning member having a cut away portion at its inner end for admitting fluid to the tubular member. i
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as o my own, I have hereto aflixe'd my signature;
. EDWARD A. REAP.
