Referring more in detail to the drawings,
1 designates a box car of ordinary construction comprising the roof 2, and a side wall 3, having a door opening 4 with its stiles 5 and lintel 6.
Fixed to the lintel 6 and extending over the door opening and longitudinally along the side of the car beyond the opening is a bracket 7, attached to the lintel 6 by bolts or the like 8 and having an outwardly directed rail portion 9 provided with a longitudinal, concaved seat 10 constituting one member of a ball race. The outer edge of the rail 9 is turned upwardly to form a guard 11 and inwardly above the rail as a lip 12 to partially confine a guideway 13. In the bottom of the rail portion 9 are open ports 14 for draining the guideway.
The car door 15 is of ordinary construction except in so far as my improvements are concerned, and fixed to the outer face of the door, near its upper edge, by bolts or the like 16, is a plate 17. A portion of the plate 17 extended above the door is curved outwardly to form the bracket part 18, thence 1 1 2s. serial No. 88,251.

spaced points throughout the'length of the bar its top and bottom walls are punched "flanges 22, and located within :the paired keeper flanges are bearing balls 25}, of such diameter as to project'through the keeper flanges to the exterior thereof while being retained loosely within the keeper bar. The ends of the bar 20 are upturned to form the stops 24 whereby travel of the bar within the hanger brackets is limited by engagement of said stops with corresponding stops (not shown) on the fixed bracket member.
The hanger just described is housed withinv a skirt 26 fixed to the lintel 6 by belts or the like 27 and having a free lower portion overhanging the brackets so that the door member may move freely between the fixed bracket member 11 and the skirt, but is protected by the skirt from rain, snow or from other foreign matter which might renter between the bracket members and clog the anti-friction bearing portions.
By arranging the lip of the movable bracket member beneath the lip of the stationary bracket, accidental displacement of the hanger is avoided without interfering with free movement of the bracket.
It is apparent that a hanger constructed as described may be easily manufactured by stamping the members from sheet metal of proper gauge, that the anti-friction bearing element may be easily made and assembled; that the anti-friction balls are properly anchored and spaced within their bar,
and that when so assembled will provide the proper and desirable anti-friction connection between the hanging door and car body with a minimum number of ball members.
It is further apparent that a hanger conandexpa-nded to provide registering keeper structed and assembled as described renders the door easily movable to open and close the car.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a door hanger the combination of a bracket having a portion for attachment to a door frame and formed to provide a rail portion which extends outwardly from said first mentioned portion and a member which extends upwardly from the rail portion and is located opposite said first mentioned portion and has an element which extends toward said portion which is attached to the door frame and in spaced relation to the rail portion and a bracket for attachment to a door, said last named bracket having an element which provides a rail and is formed to extend over the upwardly extending part of the door frame bracket and parallel thereto and parallel to the portion which is attached to the door frame.
2. In combination with a door frame and door, a bracket including an inner member attached-to the door frame to suspend the bracket, an outwardly-directed, integral rail member and an integral guard member at the outer edge of the rail member extended upwardly substantially parallel with said inner member, a bracket including a plate attached to and extending above the door and inturned to adjacent the door frame, the edge of the plate being turned downwardly and terminating in an outturned rail member portion substantially parallel with the rail member of the first named bracket, and a bearing member interposed between the rail members of the respective brackets.
3. In combination with a door frame and door, a bracket including an inner plate portion attached to the door frame, an integral rail portion extended outwardly from the bottom of the plate portion and having an upwardly facing concaved seat extending throughout its length, an upwardly extending guard member at the outer edge of the rail portion and an inturned lip on the upper edge of the guard member; a bracket including a plate member attached to and extending above the door, inturned over the lip of the first named bracket, downturned adjacent the door frame and having a rail portion at the lower edge of said clownturned portion terminating beneathsaid lip in spaced relation to the rail portion of said first named bracket and provided with a downwardly facing longitudinal coneaved seat, and a bearing member interposed between said rail portion and having antifriction members engaged in said seats.
