DISPLAY CASE.

This invention relates'to a display case, especially adapted for use in stores, for containing crackers, cookies, or similar articles to be sold. l

The invention embodies a number of improved features, the general object of which is to display samples of the goods in an attractive and sanitary manner, and in such a position that they will not ordinarily be disturbedavhen the case is opened for the purpose of taking out a portion of its content-s. The case is preferably constructed so as to contain a number of bones or packages, perhaps twelve or more, arranged in horizontal and vertical rows, and the frontof the case is provided with one or more doors having glass facings or panels, inside of which are spaces where the samples may be neatly arranged. Rear doors also provided through which the articles, in their original containers, may be inserted. Frovision also niade for insertingl shelves into the case at diiferent heights. whenever it is desired to do so. It is preferred that the case shall be entirely closed, and a space is provided in the bottom for inserting a pan of water to prevent the contents of the case f from becoming too dry.

The preferred embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a front elevation ot the dis-k play case.

The display case, to which my invention relates, is provided with a bottom wall or hoor 1, a top wall 2, and side walls 3. The rear wall of the ease is formed by doors fl,

A shelf 9 is hinged, as at 10, to the rear side of each railf, and is provided at each side with a. spring catch 11, adapted to engage one of the shoulders 12 formed on a cleat 13, which is secured to the inner face of the adjacent wall 3, The shelves 9 may, therefore, be adjusted upwardly or dowiiwardly, as indicated by dotted lines in Figure 8. Each shelf is preferably in `theforin of a skeleton frame, and is provided at :its free edge with a liplt, so that it will better retain any carton or other package which may be placed thereon. Each door 7 is in the forni of a sash or framework, in which may be set panes ot' glass forming transparent panels for the tlS front side of the door.v The rails of the door are made of considerable depth, so that they may also receive rear panels 19 of metal or other opaque material. A space is thus formed between each front transiuu'ent panel 18 and the corresponding` rear panel 19 to receive cookieaeraclrers or the like. as indicated at 20. which are arranged in an attractive manner for display purposes. The panels 19 are so held that they will be yieldingly urged toward the front panel 18, and no matter what the thickness of the articles displayed, they will be firmly held in "their prearranged positions.

The means for holding the rear panels, as shown in Figures 6 and 7, comprises a `number of bow springs 21., each having a clip 22 secured centrally thereof, and adapted to be sldably mounted on a rod 23. Each rod 23 is provided with curved ends, which may be inserted in eyes 24 secured to the frame of the door, and the bow springs 21 are so arranged that their ends bear against the rear face of the panel 19, retaining the latter in contactl with the articles displayed, and retaining the rods 23 in engagement with the -eyes 211.
