UNITED -STATES PATENT OFFICE.
BERNHARD SETTEGAST, E KIEL, GERMANY, ASSIGETGR TO SIGNAL GESELLSCHAFT HIT BESCHRNKTER HAFTUNG, OF KIEL, GERMANY, A. IIBI.
SWITCHING DEVICE.
Application led December 22, 1924, Serial No. 757,468, and in Germany August 26, 1924.
mpiece is fastened.A The ends of the spring are secured to a fork shaped carrier of the contact iece.
The o ject of the invention is shown as an example in the drawing in which Fig. 1 shows a side elevation of the contact device,
Fig. 2 an elevation at right angles to Fig. 1 and l Fig. 3 a top plan view with -asectional Y View of the contact piece itself,
The movablepart 1 of the switching device is mounted on a bracket 2 b means of a shaft or journal 3 and may be eld in one of its extreme positions by a s ring 4. The
e corres Ionding fixed contact pieces 7 and 8 may e of prismatic form having plane faces 7 and 8', since such faces in- 40 sure good contact between the contact members. In the event that one of the contact faceeof the fprisms becomes injured or covered with a lm of oxide, the prism may be turned about the shaft 9, thus presenting a new face to the movablec'ontact.
The contact arm 1 may be actuated by hand, by an electromagnet, or in any other manner known in the art. Accordingto the invention, one or all of the' contacts ma be arranged upon resilient supports, if desired,
although such mounting is shown in the specification only with respect to the mov- -sup ortin said resilient means and able contact. Furthermore, the invention is not limited to the use of helical springs for the support of the contact pieces, but any other kind of resi-lient or yielding support may be employed.
I claim:
1. In a switching device, a` contact roller having a short concentric bearing, a helical spring acting as a shaft in the bearing, short studs fitting in the ends of said spring, and a forked arm having two prongs near the ends of which said studs are mounted.
2. In a switching ldevice a forked lever arm, a resilient shafting between the forks of said arm, a contact having a short bearing at its center, said resilient shafting passing freely through the bearing and supporting said contact.
3. A switching device comprising a stationary contact, a movable contact member, a short axial bearing through said movable contact member,- resilient axial means supporting said contact member only in said short bearing and means, adapted to be moved, for sup orting lsaid resilient means and moving sait movable contact member.
4. A switching device comprising a stationary contact, a movable contact having an axis substantially parallel to said first Contact, an axial bearing through said movable contact comparably short in length with .respect to the length of saidwcontact surface,
axis substantially parallel to the axis ofy f lsaid first contact, an axial bearing through said movable contact comparabl short 1n length with'respect to the lengths of said contact surfaces, resilient means supporting said contact member only insaidfshort axial bearing and means adapted to be moved for moving mova le contact member.A t f p In testimony whereof I aix my signature.-
