IVAN/Route, "on NEW YORK, iv. 1.
BUILDING WALL -AND CONSTRUCTION.
Application zfilea na ust 17,1925. Serial 80350356.
This invention :relates to building wall "and'lbloc'k construction: and more particularly to a novel Band improved wall assembly emi'bedyingaa specific type of block which may "be conveniently handled by the workman id uring the buildirrg'operations.
hine of "theebjects of my inventionis to prioduce wall construction "of superposed building blocks constructed and arranged fer= assemblyin connection with a studding or wall anchor which prevents the block from falling :in'wardly and constitutes a guide .1 for the workman during the "building construction.
'A'further object of my invention is to construct a building wall of superimposed blocks either of the solid or hollow type in which one side or face of the block interlocks by means of hooked shaped projections with a studding or anchor adapted to be fastened to a girder, joist or rafter of the building.
In order to more fully and clearly understand. my invention, reference is had to the 7 accompanying drawing showlng the preferred embodiment in which Fig. 1 is a perspective view, parts being shown in section, illustrating a wall as sembly.
Fig. 2 is a modified form of block in a similar assembly as shown by Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a partialdetailed view showing the hooked shaped ribs or extensions on one side or face of the block. I
Fig. 4 is a detailed view showing the anchor or studding.
Referring now to the drawings wherein like reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, in Figs. 1 and 4 I have shown a wall assembly in conjunction with a girder, stud, joist or rafter in which the blocks 2 are provided on one side or face with opposed, inwardly extending hooked shaped ribs or extensions 4. The ribs or extensions 4' are of substantial thickness so that they will not break or crack during the molding or in their process of manufacture and permits the blocks to be conveniently handled by the workman during the wall assembly. The blocks are designed to be used in conjunction with a wall anchor or studding 7 which is substantially U-shaped in cross section, the central solid portion of which is reenforced as at 7 and provided with holes 7 whereby it may be fastened by screws or nails 8 as clearly'ishown'by-F l1. The wings or ends prevents the blocks from falling inwardly and when theanchor or studdin'gis properly I p'osi-tiened, acts asvaguide for the workman "during the construction work. Inorde-r render the wall moisture proof, insulation strips 10 are interposed between and held by thestudding, the insulation being also iplacedtoextend-to the reenforcing'members 11 at theends of contiguous'bloeks.
-S i-nce-the blocks asshow-n -.in-Fig. 1 'are substantially hollow, being somewhat in the nature of a series of connected hollow cylinders or tubes, they are light in weight and easily handled. The space between the reenforcing members 11 and the ribs or extensions 4 on eachside permits of free air circulationthroughout the entire height of the wall. A horizontal passage, 13 is also provided for the free circulation of air through this portion of the block itself.
To those, skilled in the art, it will also be readily appreciated that the anchor or studding above described is equally applicable in supporting a ceiling for instance constructed of blocks of light material in whichinsta-nce the blocks would hang from the anchor or studding. The anchor or studding may be of metal and fastened in any well known manner depending upon the weight that it would have to support. The space between the blocks and the girders or joists would afford a sound proof construction when the said blocks are so employed.
In the form of the invention shown by Fig. 2, the blocks 2*, instead of being hollow, may be solid but are also provided with similar ribs or extensions .4 which interlock with the blocks 3 and sealed by studdings 12 or by plastic material. Insulation 10 may also be interposed in thesame manner as described in connection with Fig. 1 and the members 11 are preferably positioned at the ends of the contiguous blocks 3. In this form of the invention, the air space between the members 11 and the ribs' t as well. as the air space 13 affords the necessary air ,circula therefore do not desire to be limited or restricted to the exact details of construction set forth except as may fall within the scope of the invention and the subject matter now being claimed.
Having shown and described my invention what I now claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is 1. A building wall composed of superposed blocks, an anchor for spacing said blocks from a structural part of a building and constituting a guide in assembling the wall and means for interlocking the blocks with the anchor.
2. A building wall composed of superposed blocks, an anchor and reenforcing members for spacing the blocks from a permanent part of a building, insulation secured by said anchor and reenforcing members and means on one side of the blocks constituting a guide for the assembly of the wall and interlocking with the said anchor.
3. A wall composed of superposed blocks each having a substantially U-shaped, vertical recess and inwardly directed, opposed,
hooked shaped projections on one face thereof, an anchor attachable to a permanent structural part or" a building and constituting a guide in the assembly of said blocks, and means on the sides of the said anchor for interlocking connection with the hooked shaped projections. 4:. A building wall composed of superposed blocks, an anchor and reenforcing members for spacing the blocks from a permanent part of a building, horizontal passages constituting air circulation means between the reenforcing members and the blocks, insulation secured by said anchor and reenforcing members and means on one side of the blocks constituting a guide for the assembly of the wall and interlockin with the said anchor.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification this 24th day of July, 1925. l 1
