J. W. RUSSEL COMBINATION DRAINBOARD AND TUB COVER Filed Jan. 5. 1927 INVENTOR BY WM IQ ATTORNEY ot t Patented Sept. 27, 192'].
s A'res JOHN T). BUSSEL, OF MARIETTA, PENNSYLVANIA.
COMBINATION DRAIN BOARD AND TUB COVER.
Application flied January 5, 1927. Serial No. 159,149.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a combination drainboard and tub cover having hanger means whereby it can be removably supported over a tub below the level of the edge of the tub so that any moisture that falls onto the device will drain therefrom below the level of the tub rim or ther objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent from the following description, considered in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a laundry tub equipped with a combination drainboard and cover embodying the invention,
Figure 2 is a fragmentary longitudinal vertical section through the tub and the combination drainboard and cover, and
Figure 3 is a fragmentary transverse vertical section through the tub and the combination drainboard and cover.
In the drawings, the numeral 1 desi ates a laundry tub which is of the usual ouble or two-compartment type, being provided intermediate its length with a transverse partition 2 which terminates at its upper edge below the edge of the body of the tub, thus producing the adjacent compartments 3.
A combination drainboard and cover for either of the tub compartments preferably is formed of steel in one piece by stamping and comprises a plate-like body 4 having a continuous marginal flange or apron 5 an sloping" slightly from its side ed es toward longitudinal median line. e body 4 he device is formed with the marginal portion thereof raised'to produce the transt'e rounded ridge or head 6 which extends com letely across one end of the body st along 1: e side edges of the body 4, and
along the other end of the body 4 from the sides of the body for part of the distance to the longitudinal median line of the body a, the ends of the bead 6 being turned outs weirdly at the second end to the body 4, thus producing the dram spout 7.
The body of the device also is formed with the grooves 8 in its upper face which extend in the general direction of length of the body 4 for the greater part of the length of the latter and slope toward the spout 7. The grooves'8 may be supplemented by lateral oblique grooves as at 9 which also slope toward the spout 7 and the grooves 8 and 9 all converge toward the spout 7 and discharge into or through the latter.
The upper face of the device may be suitably enameled or otherwise finished.
The device is adapted to fit in the upper part of one of either of the tub compartments 3 so that the end portion of the device that is provided with the s out 7 rests on the partition 2, the body 0 the device being supported on the tub body by the end hanger hooks 10 and the side hanger hooks 11. Each of the hanger hooks 10 is adapted to hook over the up er edge of an end wall of the tub body and has the end portion of its shank flattened at 12 and secured flatwise to the adjacent end portion of the apron 5 by a fastening device 13. Each of the side hanger hooks 11 is adapted to hook I over a side wall of the tub body and has the extreme end portion of its shank flattened and formed to produce a reversely curved supporting book 14 for the reception of the edge of a. side portion of the apron 5.
It is obvious that the device may be disposed in a single compartment tub or other receptacle equally as well as in the double compartment-tub exhibited in the drawings- From the foregoing descri tion of the various parts of the device, t e operation thereof may be readily understood. The device can be instantl removed from applied position on a tu and as quickly replaced thereon.
Obviously, the invention is susceptible of embodiment in forms other than that which is illustrated in the drawings and I therefore consider as my own all such modifications and adaptations thereof as fairly fall within the scope of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A combination drainboard and tub cover comprising a slightly dished rectanga lar bod portion having slightly raised margina edges and an apron depending therefrom, hange'r hooks having their shanks attached to an end portion of said apron and being adapted to hook over the upper edge of the adjacent end wall of a tub, and other hanger hooks adapted to hook over the upper edges of side Walls of the tub and having reversely curved hooks at the extremities of their shanks for the rece tion of edge portions of the side members 0 said apron.
2. A combined drainboard and tub cover stamped in one piece of steel to produce a plate like body having a depending marginal apron and a raised marginal portion extending completely across one end of the body, along the sides of the body, and inwardly along the other end of the body from the sides of the body part of the distance to eaaeoe the longitudinal median line of the body and then outwardly, thus forming a drain spout at the second end of the body, said body sloping from its side edges toward its longitudinal median line and face converging toward said spout, and aving hanger hooks adapted to hook over the upper edge of the adjacent end Wall of a tub, and other hanger hooks adapted to hook over the upper edges of side walls of the tub and having reversely curved hooks at the extremities of their shanks for the reception of edge portions of the side depending members of said marginal edge.
