State. of illinois, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Nozzles, of which the following is-a specication,
This .invention relates to nozzles and has for its objectthe provisionof an improved and eflicient construction of this kind.
Other'objects will appear hereinafter.
The invention consists in the con'ibinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
. The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which,

My invention comprises a nozzle which is a'section taken on line 3"?) of l preferably consists of a comparatively flat inner plate 5G, substantially triangular m plan and `cross section, the edges 55 of which. are upwardly turned to form a trap for dust or the like when the suction through the nozzle is cut ofi, such edges also providing a rounded surface so that the saine will slide smoothly over the carpet; and a nsimilarly shaped outer plate 57, the edges 57` of which are also upwardly turned so as to easily slide over the carpet, such plates being secured together in spaced relation by means of bolts 58 and spacing members 59 disposed therearoui'id, the construction being such that the edges of the plates56 and 5T form a continuous triangular slot 60. Apertures 61 are provided centrally in the upper side ofthe plate 5T, which communicate with and receive the ends of la hollow yoke 62, as shown in Fig. 3. The yoke 62 is preferably secured in position by the bolts 58, or other suitable se curing means. A T coupling 63 is mounted within the hollow yoke G2, and provision is made for limited movement of the nozzle 55 on the T coupling by means of rubber washers G4 `and 65, as shown in Fig. 3. By providing the nozzle 55 with a triangularly shaped slot, it will be noted that in a move ,ment of ,the nozzle ,over the surfaceto be cleaned, suction is applied to any point on such surface twice; also it will be understood that the triangular shape of the nozzle, together with the flexibly mounted coupling, -ause the device to be peculiarlv adapted to remain flat on the floor land so enhance the suction efficiency of the nozzle, attention being called to the fact that the nozzle has only three points of support, and will always have a considerable portion of the slot GO in operative contact with the floor. lt is also obvious that the flat plates of the nozzle, with the yoke G2 mounted in a central position, enable the edges of the nozzle to partially reach beneath articles of furnit-ure and the like, which are slightly raised from the floor.
l'vlhile li have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of the construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described my invention, what l claim as new and desire lo secure by Letters Patent is l. An apparatus of the character described including suction means, a nozzle communica 'ing with said suction means, said nozzle comprising members disposed one within the other and held in spaced relation, the outer edges of the floor 'engaging portion of the inner of said members being upwardly turned and forming a trap.

An apparatus of the character described including suction means, a nozzle communicating with said suction means, said nozzle comprising members held in spaced relation one within the other, said members being triangular in plan and in vertical cross section, the outer edges of the floor engaging portion of the inner of said members being upwardly turned, and a. hollow yoke with. a movable coupling mounted on said member and communicating with said suction means.
