Be it known that I, HERMAN E. PFEIFFER, a citizen of the United States, residing at York, in the county of York and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Faceplates, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in molds for making artificial stone. the general object of the inventor being to provide means of breaking portions of the molded article otl so as to leave a rough surface to imitate natural stone.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and specifications pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accoi'npanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a sectional view through a portion of a mold constructed in accordance with my invention. Figure 2 is an inner view of the face plate; Figure 8 is a section on line 33 of Figure 2. The remaining figures are detail views. Fig. 6 showing one form of the marginal edge strips 7, Fig. '7 showing the divisional strips 9, and Fig. 8 showing another form of the marginal edge strip 7. In these views 1 indicates the walls of the mold and 2 indicates the improved face plate which is adapted, to be secured to the body of the mold by the latch members 3, engaging the pins 4, Fig. 3.
This face plate is provided with a recess 5, which is provided with undercut walls 6 so that a portion of the material from which the article is to be formed will enter the recess and fill the spaces under the walls thereof. Thus when the mold is filled and tamped the portion of the article in the reeess will be locked therein so that when the face plate is removed the portion of the article within the recess will be broken otf the main part and thus leave a roughened surface on the face of the object, as shown at A, which will imitate natural stone. Strips T may be placed within the recess to make 1923. Serial No. 650,720.
marginal edge stone. The side strips may be held in place by the set screws 8 and the ends of these side strips will engage the ends of the end strips and hold said end strips in place.
Divisional strips 9, may also be placed in the recess and held therein by set screws when a divided block is to be formed, meet ing division plates which may be inserted in the mold 1.
When a block is to be formed with a beveled or molded edge, marginal strips 7 of substantially triangular or other forms are used, the outer faces of which form bevels or any shape desired on the object moulded. lVhen corner or rock end stone is desired the end plates are provided with a recess 5, which is also provided with undercut walls so that the ends of the molded object can be broken off as well as the face. This end member is shown at Figure 3.
These end plates can be used on various types of molds though it may be necessary to change the connections to suit the molds for which they are intended.
A block can be formed with this invention which will give the same etl'ec as a hand out stone. Though when a smooth face block is desired, the face plate can be reversed so as to bring its flat face innermost.
It is thought from the foregoing descriptions that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent. I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the constructions and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, providing that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is:
l. A. face plate for a mold having a re cess therein provided with undercut walls to receive a portion of the object being molded.
2. A face plate for a mold having a recess therein provided with undercut walls to receive a portion of the object being molded and marginal strips adapted to be connected with the undercut walls.
A face plate for a mold having a recess therein provided with undercut wall to receive a portion of the object being molded, marginal strips adapted to be connected with the undercut wall, some. of said strips having inwardly sloping Walls for forming beveled edges on the object molded.
In a mold, a face plate and end plates, each having a recesstherein provided with 5 undercut walls'foi"receiving portions of the object molded andlatch means for connecting the parts together and to the mold.
5. -A face plate for a mold comprising a recess having undercut Walls, divisional strips in the recess and detachably conneet- 10 ed With the face plate.
