Description
J. E. SWANSON HOOK Filed Sept. 10 1925 John lif'walnson A [NVENTOR ATTORNEY WITNESS:
UNH'ED ST JOHN E. SWANSON, OF WESTFIELD. NEW YORK.
HOOK.
Application filed September 10 1923. Serial No. 661,991.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN E. SWANSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at \Vestfield, in the county of Chautauqua and State oi New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Hooks, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to provide a hook which may be used for holding cables, such as clothes lines and the like, the book being so formed that the cable can be easily and quickly attached thereto and slack removed from the cable very quickly.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out .in the appended claim.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is an elevation of the improved hook provided with a screw eye.
Figures 2 and 3 are views showing different ways of attaching a cable to the book.
As shown in these views, the device is composed of a single length of wire, as shown at 1, which is bent in its center to produce the loo-p 2 and which has its ends bent to form the hooks 3. The device is flat so that the hooks are in the same plane as the loop and the loop is adapted to re ceive a screw eye, such as shown at 4, when it is to be used for holding a cable, which is shown at 5. Figures 2 and 3 show different ways of attaching the cable to the hook so that slack can be quickly taken out of the cable. The device can be used in various situations and by removing the screw eye it may be used as a grab hook. It may be used "for holding clothes lines, wire stretch ers, pulley blocks and by making it of heavy material it may be used on tractors, teams, boats and the like.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily ap parent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
l Vhat I claim is A device of the class described comprising a member bent upon itself to form a U-shaped loop, the outer ends of the limbs being slightly spaced apart and the ends bent to form hooks and a screw eye engaging the bight of the loop, said hooks and loops being in the same plane and the hooks being of the same dimensions.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
JOHN E. SWANSON.
