Description

Get. 21 1 924. 1,512,53 I c. RIDLINGHAFER 1 MARKET BAG CARRIER Filed May 29, 1923 ll l i 1 v 11 In h 3110011 for Patented a. 21, 1924.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES BIDLINGHAFER, OF SEATTLE, WASHINGTON MARKET-BAG CARRIER.
Application filed May 29, 1923. Serial No. 642,202.
- bag includes the usual cord handles, the
purpose of the invention being to provide a carrier that may be detachably associated with the cord handles for facilitating the carrying of the bag, without drawing these cord handles in close relation to each other, which often times results in the tearing of the bags, or injury to ones hands.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of such a carrier that is comparatively simple in construction, and of such a nature as to be readily associated with the usual cord handles of market bags.
A .still further object of the invention is the provision of such a carrier that may be manufactured and marketed at relatively small cost. 7
The nature and advantages of the invention will be better understood when the following detailed description is read in connection with the accompanying drawings, th invention residing in the construction, combination, and arrangement of parts as claimed.
In the drawings forming part of this application, like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views, and wherein:
Figure 1-is a side elevation of my in1- proved carrier, the same being shown as associated with a well known form of market bag.
Figure 2is a top plan view of the carrier, per'se.
Figure 3-is a detail cross section upon the line 33 of Figure 2, and
Figures 4: and 5are perspectives of the elements constituting the invention.
In Fi ure 1, 5 designates a well known form .0 paper market bag equipped at. its upper end and at opposite sides with the usual cord handles 6. The present carrier'ithat is adapted to be employed in conjunction with this type of bag constitutes a wooden or other appropriate material bar;
Zection 7, that is formed with a flat surace.
Upon the flat side of the member 7, which no reality constitutes a handle, there is positioned a metallic strip 9, that is of relat vely greater length than the member 7, thls strlp 9 being provided upon opposite sides and adjacent opposite ends with notches 10, which are adapted for receiving the sides of securing staples 11, the
same being driven into the member 7, and constituting a means for maintaining the 1s)tr1pZ 9 lIl proper engagement with the mem- In view of the above description, it will at once be obvious that in the employment of my improved carrier, the cord handles.
6 of the ba 5. are engaged between the member 7 an metallic strip 9, these handles 6 being then positioned within the grooves 8, in which position, they are maintained by the strip 9. I
It will at once be apparent that I have provided'a highly improved form of market bag carrier, and even though I have herein shown and described the most preferred embodiment of the present invention with which I am now familiar, it is nevertheless to be understood that minor changes may be made therein, without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is:-
I. In combination with a market bag, wherein the same is provided at its upper end with a pair of cord handles, a carrier comprising a rod section formed adjacent its opposite ends with circumferential grooves adapted for receiving the cord handles of said bag and releasable means for maintaining said handles within said grooves. I
2. In a carrier of the class described,'a rod section formed with circumferential grooves adjacent its opposite ends, and a metallic strip extending longitudinally with said rod section and secured thereto, the ends of said metallic strip engaging over said circumferential grooves.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
CHARLES RIDLINGHAFER.
