Description
met. M, 1924.
` R. 1'. FOLEY VALVE Filed Feb. l2, 1924 frei with it in the upward movement and also the valve stem and lug, thus compressing the spring 20. and lidting the valve. from its seat in op ition to the spring.
When t e cap is released the tension of the spring 20, with the inclination of the v notches 25, induces a return movement of the ca and disk 23 to receive the balls 18 l again in the grooves 24 and permits the plug 31 encircling the casin l of the cap and its connected parts.
It will be'noted that the balls 18 while tion of a suitable Spanner,
` not shown, engaged with the apertures 32.
Although the invention is shown and de-v scribed as applied 'to a basin faucet it will be understood that it maybe applied to any type of valve with which it is adapted to serve in controlling the How 'of various fluids. v I claim `1. A valve comprising a body having a valve seat, a casing separably mounted on said body infaxial alinement with said seat, and having a head, a valve lug having a stem extendin through saidgiead, a series of balls loosey head, a' disk having depressions receivin the protruding portions of said balls, sai
4seated in cavities in said disk arranged to ride upon said balls and lift'said slug by a turning movement of said stem, sai balls being retained against movement from their positions during the movement of said disk, and a cap secured to said stem to turn and to rise and sink therewith and inclosing said disk and head.
2. A valve comprising a body having a valve seat, a casing separably mounted on saidbody in axial alinement with said seat, and having a head, a valve plug having a stein extendin of balls loose y seated in cavities in said head, a disk having depressions receiving the protruding portions of said balls, said disk arranged to ride upon said balls and lift said pluv by a turning movement of said stein, said balls bein retained against movement from their positions during the movement of said disk, a cap secured to said stem to turn and to rise and sink therewith and inclosing said disk and head, and havin a depending skirt, and an annular collar mclosing said casing and engaged with said skirt within the latter, and arranged to coact with said head to limit the upward movement of said plug.
3. A valve comprising a body with valve seat, a casing mounted thereon, and having ya head with hemis herical cavities, balls seated therein, a va ve and valve stein, a spring surrounding the valve stein and interposed between a shoulder thereon and a shoulder on said head, a disk mounted on the stein and having in its under face grooves receiving and matching the up er portions of the balls, said grooves exten ing diametricall at right an les to each other, and inclin notches leading from saidA grooves to the portions of the under face of the disk between said grooves, and a cap bearing on said disk.
In testimon that I claim the invention above set fort I aflix in signature hereto.
