The objects of the invention are to enable the condenser and the removal pump instead of for instance between the turbine and the condenser, secure a greater static head for the removal pump, permit the pump casing to be removed without disturbing the condenser, and cheapen and simplify condenser construction oit t is type.

A removal pump H is shown supported on the foundation .l below the condenser A and in this instancethe removal pump comprises the usual lower casing K and the u per casing L provided with the bearing for the shaft P and having the discharge pipe Q.
The support for the removal pump is seperate and independent from the supports C for the condenser and in accordance with this invention, the' `condenser and removal pump are connected by an expansion joint.
This expansion joint is preferably shown in the form of e ciuirrugatc expansion member R which may be o copper or other suitable material. The bottom of the condenser is provided with the'lenge S, and the 'top of the removal pump is provided with the ilange T. The flanged edges U and V ci the corrugated expansion member R erebeld against the condenser ange S and the pump lange T respectively b means of the clam ing rings W and Xen bolts Y. ln accor ance with this construction, the pump casing can be removed without disturbing the condenser, by loosening the' bolts Y and removing the expansion ]oint.
