SPORT SHOE.
Application filed June 19, 1925.
The present invention relates to shoes and more particulz-irly to a sport or skating shoe.
A skating shoe, especially when used by cl'iildren or youths, is very seldom worn out by the time the user has outgrown the shoe.
An object of the present invention is to make a skating shoe having a removable counter, portions oi which. may be removed to increase the interior length of the shoe.
In order to attain this object, there is provided, in accordance with one feature of the invention, a leather member shaped to con form to the interior of the counter of the a hoe and provided with removable pads. This member is positioned interiorly or the lining of the shoe. A second lining is sewed in'teriorly oi the true lining oi the shoe and is left free at the lower edge thereof to permit the lower portion thereot to be raised to insert or remove the padded leather memher. A flap of leather may be sewed to the rear of the shoe interiorly of the second lining thereof to form a smooth closure across the rear thereof. An inner sole of comparatively stiii material such as leather, removably positioned interior-1y of the shoe. The heel portion of the inner sole is "forced against the false ions 1 lining and the counter and the toe thereof is forced against the toe of the shoe to hold the parts securely in position.
These and other features of the invention. not specifically men .'.oned, will be more fully brought out in. the following description and the accompanying drawings wherein:
Figure 1, is view .in ion udinal section through a shoe made in accordance with the present invention.
Figure 2, is a view taken on the line 22 of the shoe shown in Figure 1, a pair of supportin straps b ing crossed over to show the method oi securing the same.
Figure 3. is a view on the line of Figure 1, showing the structure of applicants invention only. the remainder of the shoe being of a normal type of construction; and
Figure 4;, is a view in perspective oi a removable counter made in accordance with the sent invention,
to the drawings in detail a shoe A nut. be oi normal type of construction. and provided with a lining 1 which is preferably of soft leather sewed lnteriorly of the shoe on either slde thereof. A plece 2 serial No. 38,137.
is sewed interiorly of the lining 1 on each side of the shoe and is stitched across at 3, the bottom portion of each oi thepieces 2 being tree from any connection with the body oi? the shoe. A piece 4 is sewed interiorly of the pieces 2 to form a smooth closure across the division. 5 between the pieces 2 to pre-- vent possible chafing of the footof the wearer by the joint intermediate the two pieces The piece 4- is also stitched across 3, the bottom portion of the piece t being free from any connection with the body of the shoe. A. false counter B comprises a 6 of suitable material, such as shaped as shown in Figure 4-. In teriorly of the false counter 6 is sewed a o ce of pudding 7 which may be of felt, the first p ece of padding being sewed. to '4. false co: iter at 9. Interiorly oi the first paddi member Y," a second padding member 8 may be sewed at 10 so as to permitthe removal oi padding member 8 and still leave the padding member 7 secured in. position at 9. The padding members are sewed so that the bottom edges thereof are spaced from the inwardly turned lower of the false counter 6 to receive an inner sole 1'? which is preferably of a stii'l material such as leather, and of a length to exert a p rearwardly against the raise counter and the bottom portion of the padding; niieiirbers T and 8 and forwardly against he too of the shoe to secure the parts firmly .A is
inposition within the heel of the shoe. The Snl nd the rear piece 4 are of id well under the edges of ole 1? to prevent t1: their becoming .ction thereon of the foot of 't' instep secu str ps 11 and 1. o-vided, each of the ps having ill; .l cont. .1 shown in i igure 1. and one oi the straps icing; provided with an n 13 through which the end of the other strap may be inserted. An incision is also provided in each side of the shoe, straps bein sewed hi position interiof the as shown in Figure Buckles are provided enteriorly of the shoe and sewed to the sole of the shoe as illustrated in Figure The straps each drawn upward to the poscion shown in Figure 1, and the foot of the wearer is inserted in the shoe. The p 11 is inserted in the incision 13 in t i a d the tree end out each of the traps is then passed through an incision 14:
- o't each strap is then passed through a b; clrle 15 and drawn up to securely retain the foot p: ition therein.
hen the shoe becomes too short, one of the padding .me'nibers may be removed as follows The inner sole 1? is first removed by grasping it at approximately the instep and drawing it upward. This arches the inner sole upward and permits the rear end to be withdrawn from the position shown in- Figurel to free the lower edges of pieces 2 and l. The lower portions of the pieces 2 and 4 may be raised to disclose the false counter 13 and its associated parts. By inserting a knife blade intermediate the padding members 7 and 8 the stitching 10 securing the inner pad may be cut and the pad removed. The counter may then be replaced in the heel of the shoe, and the pieces 2 and 4 may be smoothly drawn down to enclose the counter. The inner sole may then be placed in position interiorly of the shoe in an upwardly arched position so that the rear edge thereof engages the pieces 2 and 4. The inner sole may then be forced downward to the position shown in Figure l, the action of the inner sole in drawing the lining pieces 2 and i backward under the pad acting to firmly secure the parts in position. As the foot of the wearer increases in size, the second pad 7 may likewise be removed and eventually the leather member 6 may be removed entirelyto bring the size of the shoe up to its full normal interior length.
I claim 1. A shoe of the character described, comprising a body portion, a removable counter member inserted therein, a depending flap of leather forming a cover for said removable counter and extending beyond the lower edge of said counter, and a removable inner sole of a length to exert a pressure between the toe of the shoe and the flap of leather overlying the removable counter to hold the flap of leather and the counter firmly in position.
2. A shoe of the character described, comprising a body portion, a removable counter member inserted therein, a plurality of separately removable pads connected to said counter member, a depending flap of leather secured to the body portion and forming a covcring for said removable counter and pads leather and the counter firmly in position.
3. A shoe of the character described, comprising a body portion, a removable counter member inserted therein, a flap or" leather connected to each side of the body portion of the shoe to depend therefrom and cover the removable counter, each of said flaps extending beyond the lower edge of said counter, a third flap of leather secured inter mediate the rearward edges of said first mentioned flaps and also extending beyond the lower edge of said counter, and a removable inner sole of a length to exert a pressure between the toe of the shoe and the flaps of leather overlying the removable counter to hold said flaps of leather and the counter firmly in position.
4. A shoe of the character described, comprising a body portion, a removable counter member inserted therein, separately removable pads connected to said counter member, and a removable inner solepositioned to exert a rearward pressure on the counter member to hold said member and the pads removably connected thereto firmly in position.
5. A shoe of the character described, comprising a body portion, a removable counter member inserted therein, said counter member having an inwardly turned lower edge to rest on the sole of said shoe, a lining member secured to the upper portion of the shoe to depend therefrom and having its lower edge free, and extending beyond the lower inwardly turned edge ofthe counter, and an inner sole resting upon the inwardly turned lower edge of the counter and the lower edge of the lining member to hold the lining member and the counter firmly in position.
6. A shoe of the character described, conr prising a body portion, a removable counter member inserted therein, separately remov able pads connected to a face of said counter member, a lining member having a free lower edge extending beyond the lower edge of the counter member, said lining member covering said counter member, and a removable sole member engaging said lining member and said counter member to hold the pads firmly in position.
In testimony whereof I aillx my signature.
