FOLDING DOOR.
Application filed. July 13, 1923, Serial This invention relates to improvements in folding doors, especially to metallic folding doors, which improvements give adaptability of said doors to all kinds of iron frames in sheds or stores, said doors being usable, furthermore, in inclined or perpendicular fronts.-
Another object of the invention is to pro vide improvements in the construction of folding doors in which the brackets of drums for folding the doors and the guide rails thereof are composed of adjustable movable parts as desirable for the installation.
Another object of the invention is to provide an improvei'nent in the drums for rolling the doors, by means of which improvements the drums can be installed more easily, and, furthermore, there is added a ;..v class for connection of the to) )art of the door. A suitable tool is likewise provided by means of which the drums can be installed with great facility on their corresponding axles.
Another object of the invention is to provide an improvement in the hub on which the folding door drums are mounted, making the construction thereof much simpler.
Another object of the invention is to provide a secure latch for the door, and to effectively modify the means used to make the closing movement of the door smoother.
Further advantages and other considera tions pertaining to the invention will be clear from the specification taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which the same characters of reference designate the same parts throughout, and wherein Figure 1 is an exterior, front elevation of a folding door constructed in accordance with the present invention;

In Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings is represented a folding metallic door 1 having an opening 2 with a shutter 3 which has a demonntable frame 1 and usual latches 5.
The means for folding the door consists of two brackets 6 and 7 that extend inward ly at the top part of the door, and one for each side of same. Referring for example, to the bracket 6 which is in every detail like the opposite bracket 7, said bracket is fixed to the top beam 8 of the door. The beam consists of a recessed section and the bracket is fixed thereto by means of an angle plate 9, which, at the top is connected by bolts 10 to the extreme front of the bracket 6. The bolts 10 pass through vertical adjusting slots 9 formed in the bracket. The angle plate 9 is secured to the post 8 by means of bolts 11 passing through adjusting slots 9 formed therein. The bracket 6 is further secured to the side member 12 that serves as the door guide rail, by a vertical angle plate 13 fixed to the top of the bracket 6 by means of bolts ldpassing through slots 6 in the member 13. The central part of the rail 12 is secured to the bottom of the plate 13, by means of a spaced block 15 to which the plate is fixed by means of bolts 16 and 17, the block 15 being fastened to the rail 12 by a screw 18.
The plate 13 is further secured to one of the sides 2 of the door by means of an angular clamp 19 which is fastened to the lower part of the plate 18 by means of a bolt 20 passing through a vertical slot 19 in the plate 13, and a horizontal slot 19 in the clamp 19, and to one of the sides of the door by means of a bolt 21.
The plate 13 has horizontal accessory slots 13 for a purpose to be later explained.
At the lower part of each bracket 6 and 7 are provided grooves 22 for receiving the wings of the top beam 8 in case the latter is disposed in an inverted position to that shown in Fig. l, i. e., with its wings upward.
The described assembly theretore makes the brackets 6 and 7, the plate 13 and the guide rails 12 ot the door adjustable by means ot the connecting bolts and slots. This is furthermore etlected by the grooves 13 in the plate 13 which permit placing said plate in different positions from that a pearing In the drawing.
At the tree ends of the brackets '6 and Y there are horizontal grooves 22-) in each of which adj us'tably mounted a bolt Q l which in turn passes through a vertical groove 25 term-ed in an extension that terminates in a collar '36 which serves to support an axle 2 7 on which the folding drums of the door are mounted, and which axle is firmly secured by a setscrew 27 screwed in the top of each collar.
'lhese collars can consequently be adjusted through the grooves 23 and whereby the bolt 24. is adapted for horizontal adjustn'ie-nt relative to grooves 23 and l rthernrore the bolt 2% being square, cannot turn in the. groove as it could it it were cylindrical, when it is acted on by the force due to the tension of the drum springs.
These drums 9S and are, as usual, mounted on hubs 30 of the type shown in Fi g. 10.
This type of hub at its central part has an enlarged diameter provided. with a notch 30' for surings 31 which are lodged inside the drums 5 and 2t) and a reces l to lighten g it. On either elevatec. aide oh. the hub are reduced portions 30 where the friction of the drums 28 and acts. At the ends of the hub are lengthwise slots 32 for receiving the lower teeth 33 of the coupling pieces or lzeys 33, shown in detail in Fig. 14, and which serve to 'l'lX the drum 28 to the hub 30 when the top teeth 33 of said keys are connee-ted in the grooves 28 of the drum.
The construction or the drums also ineludes three stationary pins 34, 35 and 36 with outwardly projecting ends, and in two of them is secured a clasp, as illustrated in Fig. 11, consisting of a bent rod 37 in the form of a U, and with its ends 37 curved so as to fit over the projecting ends of one of the stationary pins, as pin 34, and permitting the top edge L of the door I to engage in said clasp, as shown in Figs. 7 and 9.
At the same time the projections of the three stationary pins permit using a tool such as that shown in Fig. 15 and consisting o-l a fork having a. handle 38, and prongs 39 with their ends bent downwardly so as to be adapted to lit over the ends ot. the pin on which it acts. This permits adjusting the folding drum with great ease, and without the necessity of making an entire rotation of the drum, and furthermore permits liner graduation of the spring tension according to the three possible adjustment positions, all of which is clearly illustrated in 12 and 13.
It is evident that within the principles of construction above enumerated, distinct changes can be made without departing from the described invention, which is claimed as follows z- 1. In combination, a pair of vertical guide rails, a transverse top beam connected thereto, spacing blocks secured to the rails, a connecting plate secured to each spacing block, brackets having a slot and bolt connection with the connecting plates, support collars horizontally and vertically adjustably connected to the brackets, and a drum axle carried by the collars.
2. A rolling dwice tor a folding door, comprising, an axle, a hub mounted thereon, the hub having an enlarged central portion, slots in the ends of the hub, a drum surrounding the hub and connected thereto by means of the slots, pins carried by the drum and daptcd for engagement by a tool for rotating the drum, and a clasp carried by one of the pins and arranged for attachment to folding door.
