This invention relates to a simple and improved advertising novelty adapted to be readily mounted in place on a telephone, behind the telephone mouthpiece, and constructed in the shape of a floral design or similar article and concealing a plurality of pivoted index or directory cards arranged in any desired order and containing names and telephone numbers of subscribers with whom one has frequent intercourse.

It is an object ofthis invention to provide an ornamental telephone index or directory adapted to be removably engaged on the transmitter of a telephone and having telephone index cards disposed beneath an ornamental cover with the telephone mouthpiece serving as a stop for the index leaves when the same are in closed position.

It is an important object of this invention to provide a telephone advertising novelty in the form of a flower or other article adapted to carry an advertisement and having a plurality of accessible hidden telephone list cards all of which are supported on a common pivot between a back plate and decorative front pieces.

The invention (in a preferred form) is illustrated in the drawings and hereinafter more fully described.

On the drawings Figure 1 is a front view of the telephone advertising novelty of this invention mounted on the transmitter of a telephone.

Figure 2 is a side view thereof.

Figure 3 is an enlarged fragmentary section taken on line 3-3 of Figure 1.

Figure 4 is a front view of the directory device in open position disclosing several of the index cards or leaves.

As shown on the drawings The reference numeral 1 indicates a por able telephone stand having the customary receiver 2 and a transmitter 3. A monthpiece 4 is threaded into the transmitter 3 and serves to hold the floral advertising novelty in place on the transmitter.

The advertising novelty in the form illustrated comprises a one piece back plate 5 of a shape to correspond to the outline of a flower or other article and carrying a pivot sleeve or thimble 6 on which a plurality of half sheets or index cards 7 are pivotally mounted in overlapping relation. Each of the index cards is shaped to correspond to substantially one-half of-the contour of the flower and is provided with a semi-circular notch 8 to fit around the telephone mouthpiece 4 which acts as a stop for the index cards 7 when they are in closed position. Each index card 7 is arranged or printed to provide for a list of name spaces and corresponding telephone number spaces as illustrated in Figure The index cards may be printed in any desired arrangement and alphabetically assembled if so desired for the sake of convenience in finding de sired names and numbers.

Also pivotally mounted on the sleeve or thimble 6 in front of the index cards '4' is a pair of cover cards 9 shaped to conform to one-half the contour of a flower of selected design. Each cover card 9 is provided with a semi-circular notch 10 to en gage around the telephone mouthpiece 4.- when the cover cards or plates are in closed position to conceal the index cards and give the device the appearance of a flower.

Any desired form of advertising matter may be printed or otherwise applied to either one or both of the cover cards 9 to permit the device to be used as an advertising medium. If preferred the advertising matter may be placed on the index cards or'on the back plate 5.

The size of the hole in the back plate is such that the threaded portion of the tele phone mouthpiece will fit therein to hold the device secured to the telephone transmitter 3 against rotation.

The device may be made of cardboard, celluloid or any other desired material and of various colors to suit the taste of purchasers. The cover plates when closed give the appearance of a flower and if desired said cover plates may be covered with silk and elaborately made for use in living rooms, boudoirs and the like.

I am aware that numerous details of construction may be varied through a wide range without departing from the principles of this invention, and I therefore do not purpose limiting the patent granted otherwise than necesitated by the prior art.

I claim as my invention 1.
