To all whom it may concern: I
Be it known that I, WALTER J. GARNER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Petrolia, county of Clay, State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Pipe-Cleaning Machine, of which the following is a specification.
The invention comprises a plurality of idle and driven disks having irregular abrasive circumferential surfaces.
The object of this invention is to provid a machine of the character described that will clean the rust and scale from pipes and tubes. 7
A further object of this invention is to provide a machine of the character de scribed that will eliminate hand labor in cleaning the dirt and rust from old pipe and tubing.
Another object of this invention is to provide a pipe cleaning machine that is very simple and practical and can be manufactured, sold and operated at a very nominal cost.
' The nature and advantages of this invention will be better understood when the following detailed description is read in connection with the accompanying drawing forming a part of this application.
In the accompanying drawing the various parts will be referred to'by numbers. And, wherein:
Figure 1 is a plain end view.
Figure 2 is a top elevation.
The device forming the subject matter of this invention comprises a plurality of supports 1, 2 are shafts mounted upon the said supports 1, 3 are driven gears mounted upon the shafts 2,4 is a driving gear mounted upon the shaft 5 meshing with the gears 3, 6 are disks mounted upon the shaft 2, the disks are threaded on the circumferential surface as shown providing an abrasive surface for cleaning the rust and scale from the pipe, 7 is a threaded standard mounted upon the center support 1 as shown, 8 is a hinged support mounted upon the standard 7, 9 is an adjusting nut for the purpose of raising and lowering the support 8, 10 are idler disks mounted in the support 8, having abrasive circumferential surfaces the same as the disks 6, 11 is an adjusting lever attached to the center support 1, 12 is a connecting link between the support 8 and the lever 11, 13 is a spring between the lever 11 and the center support 1 for the purpose of holding the disks 1O securely against the pipe 14.
The device is operated inthe following manner: By raising thelever 11, it raises the disks 10, a joint of pipe may be placed between the disks 6 and 10, the lever 11 is then lowered bringing the disks 10 in contact with the pipe 14. Power is then applied to the gear 4 which rotates the driven disks 6; the threaded surfaces of the disks 6 and 10 move the pipe 14 longitudinally as they clean the same.
While it is believed from the foregoing description the nature and advantages of the invention will be readily apparent I de sire to have it understood that I do not limit myself to what is herein shown and described, and that such changes may be resorted to, when desired, as fall within the scope of what is herein claimed.
Attention is directed to the fact that the spring 13 insures of an equal pressure being applied to the pipe by "the abrasive discs, while. the adjusting element, or nut 9, permits of the tension applied by the spring being varied or properly adjusted even while the machine is in operation.
What I claim is:
A pipe cleaning machine comprising in combination a plurality of main supports, a pair of parallel driven shafts mounted thereon, a pair of spaced discs having screw threaded peripheries carried by each shaft for advancing longitudinally of the machine the pipe to be cleaned, a threaded standard mounted at one side of one of said main diate the discs on the main supports, a lever pivoted to the main support opposite the standard and in limited connection with the outer end of the swinging section of the secondary support, and a spring arranged between the lever and the main'support for insuring of an equalized pressure being ap plied on the pipe by the abrasive discs,
