Description
Patented Feb. 23, 1926.
GEORGE I1. WILCOX, OF ESCALON, CALIFORNIA.
GAPB/I-FIG BASKET.
Application filed February 7, 1923. Serial No. 617,638.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Gnonen L. Vvnlcom' a citizen of the United States, residing at Escalon, in the county of San Joaquin and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Capri-Fig Baskets, of which the following is a specification. 7
My invention relates to improvements in capri baskets, a receptacle for the capri fig containing the pollen carrying wasp removed from the capri tree and placed in he fig tree to be pollinated The object of my invention is to provide a receptacle that reduces to a minimum an at tachment for the spiders web and a harbor or ants or other insects.
A further object of my invention is to provide a receptaclethat will hang equally well against the trunk of the tree or suspended directly from an overhanging limb, and at all times have an unobstructed top for filling.
A further object is to provide flexible and esilient spiral walls, the movement of which instantly disengages the withered and packed figs when removing the entire contents, or may be spreadsutliciently for the removal of exhausted figs at any point without removing the active figs at the top.
A further object is a construction that is rract-ically indestructible and so simply, easily and cheaply made that the cost is well within the reach of even the commercial grower who uses large quantities.
The invention is a matter of the manner in which a single piece of wire is worked into "he desired form to result in the above improvements.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification in which the figure indicates the part or feature referred to.
Fig. l is a side elevation of the preferred :iorm.
When made in the form shown in Fig. 1, the hanger 1 is formedat the end of a piece cf wire, the long end of which is carried downwardly therefrom to 2, a distance equal to the depth of the receptacle desired and is then turned round and round upwardly in a (one-shaped spiral 3 to an intersection 4 near the base of the hanger 1 where the end of the wire oppositethe hanger end is made securelv fast.
Having thus described my invention, What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patout is:
l. A basket comprising a helically wound coil formed of a single piece of wire, said wire at the bottom of the coil beingbent to extend upwardly to the top of the basket and then serving as a hanger for the basket.
2. A basket comprising a helically wound coil formed of a single piece of. wire, said wire at the bottom of the coil being bent to extend upwardly and hav ng an extension tbereabove to serve as a hanger; the end of the wire at the top of the coil being interwound with the upwardly extending projection. i
3. A basket comprising a helical coil of wire, a vertical wire extending upwardly inide the basket adjacent one edge thereof and formed asan integral extension of the coil at the bottom of the basket, and hanger means formed on the upper end of said vertical wire. i a
4. A basket comprising" a helically wound coil formed ofa single piece of wire, said wire from the bottom of the coil being bent to extend upwardly to the top of the basket inside and immediately adjacent one side thereof and being then bent outwardly of and above the basket to form a hook.
In testimony whereof I atlix my signature.
GEORGE L. WILCOX. I
