Application filed June 24, 1925; Seriail li'o. 39,359.
f To all whom it may comer n: I
Be it known that I, FRANK J. Caron, a at 4 Camden, in the county of Camden and ate citizen of the United States, residin of New Jersey, have invented new anduse ful' Improvements in Trigger Guards, of which the following is a specification.
r This invention contemplates the provision '10 ofa trigger guard for firing arms, the guard lation to the trigger to. preventthe fire arm I from being casually discharg'edby animals being so constructed and arranged with reor the like, should the fire arm he laid. upon the ground or surface, or by the trigger being brought into contact with some jobject, while carrying thefirearm.
, byv t e fingerbefore the latter can be brought More specifically" stated, "the; invention guard for. fire-arms which is designe to cover the trigger, and including a slide the invention residing in the construction,
combination and arrangementof partsas claimed. v
In the drawings forming part of this application, like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in theseveral views, and wherein: Y f
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the fire arm showing the guard attached thereto.
Figure 2 is a similar view looking at the opposite side of the gun gand guard. igu
re 3 is an enlarged sectional view through the guard showing how the slide is retracted by the finger while-moving the 5-5 of Figure'3.
latter in' the direction 'of the trigger.
Figure4 is a'viewitaken at a ri ht angle to Figure3.'i-
Figure. 5 is a sectional fview taken onlin'e Figure 6 is aperspective view of the slide.- For the Y purpose of illustration I have sho'wnthe invention used with a double .bar rel shot gun herein indicated generally at 10 and provided with triggers 11 and 12 respectiv although it is to be understood that a general application of the invention to firearms of any make is contemplated t I spring'22 in order to enable the operator bythechimsp i The guard isin the'nature of. a casing preferably of the design illustrated. an
adapted to be secured to the body of the gun by suitable fastening elements, the latter are' adapted to'be' passed through attaching lugs 13sh'own. in Figure 4. This guard casmg is preferably made up in two parts, one
part including a shell or casing like portion 14 of cross sectional contour shown injFigure 3, while the other part is indicated. at 15, Y
and is formed with alip orextension 16 which lies over the fingerreceivingopening in the part 15. The part 15 isarranged s1de by side with the part 14 and is secured thereto by suitable fastening elements 17 as shownin Figure 3. When the two parts are secured ard'is curved or together, one side of the rounded while the other s1de is substantially flattened except for the lip or extension 16 above referred to. Carried by the art 15 are s aced arallel plates 1 18 WhlCh' are shape to de e a track or guideway for the finger actuatedslide 19, andthese plates are held associated by suitable fastening elements 20. in addition to one of the'fastenmg elements 17 above referred to. The plates 18 are provided with aligned finger receiving openings 21 which are arranged to be covered by the lip or extension 16, and these openings are normally closed by the slide ,19
which is normally held. in the position-shown in Figuregthat is across said opening, by. 1
. the spring 22-. -The upper and lower edges .of this slide are reduced as at 23 to accommodate itself to theformation of the, plates guides'or. tracks for theslides, while pro-- jecting from the latter-11s an apertured lug. 24 to which one end of a spring 22 moonthe guard in its entirety willbe made in 18, which as above stated are shaped to form v nected. It is of course to be understood that I right and lefts, that'isto say that gthe finge'r i receiving opening together with the lip "16 i will be'arranged -on*either side t c-permit of .its use with either right j-or left handed persons:
Theguard'is arranged upon the i manner shown in Figures 1 and 2 with the'] finger receiv ng opening at one'side of the ip. or extension'16, that the f nger of the operator must be first inserted wit in the hp in order to pass the "finger throu hathe openings in the plate 18.- Then'the s 'de 19 must be retracted against the tension of the '105 ard and so positioned'with'relation to'the tact with the trigger or the gun -I do notYlimit myself to what is herein shown and described, and that such changes may be resorted to when desired as fall within the scope of what is claimed.
Having thus described the invention, I claim: 1, I
1., A trigger guard for firing arms, comprising a casing adapted to cover said trigger and having a. finger receiving opening therein, a curved extension overlying said opening and beneath which the finger must pass in reaching said opening, and a finger ard and normally projcted in advance 0 the trigactuated slide operatingin said prising a casing adapted to cover said trigger and includingv a curved portion and a substantially flat portion having a finger receiving opening, a curved lip extending beyond said opening and beneath which the finger must pass in reaching said opening and .a spring'pressed finger actuated slide operating in said guard and norm-ally projected within said lip to partly clo'se said opening.
3. A trigger guard for fire arms, comprising a two part casing adapted to cover said trigger, one part of the casing being curved, the other part supporting a pair of spaced parallel plates having aligned finger receiving openings, a curved lip. extending beyond said openings and beneath which the finger moves in reaching said opening, a finger actuated slide operating between said plates, and a spring normally holding the slide projected within said extension to partly close said openings.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
FRANK J. CAPON.
