s. B. WOOSTER SANITARY BELT Filed Dec. 14 1921 INVENTOI? SAP/4H B. WOOSTEK.
ATTORNEY Patented Aug. 18, 1925.
SARAH B. WOOSTER, OF SAN FR NCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
SANITARY BELT. j
Application filed December 14, 1921. Serial No. 522,305.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SARAH B. Woosrnn, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city and county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Sanitary Belts, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a belt'or support fol; catamenial sacks, sanitary napkins or the One of the objects of the present invention is to provide a belt of this character which is adapted to encircle the waist of the wearer; a belt which consists of non-elastic webbing, comfortable, and adjustable to suit waists of varying measure, and which is constructed of a material permitting laundering from time to time.
Another object of the invention is to provide a pair of shield or tab like sections, one adjustably attached to the belt and one fixed thereto; said shield sections being disposed one in back and the other in front of the wearer and serving as an adjustable support for the napkin or other means worn.
Further objects will hereinafter appear.
The invention consists of the parts and the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter more fully described and claimed, having reference to the accompanying drawings, in which- Fig. 1 is a perspective view showing the application of the invention.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the belt and the shield sections carried thereby.
Referring tothe drawings in detail, A indicates a belt of suitable dimensions, preferably constructed of non-elastic material, such as webbing or the like. Attached to the belt, as at 2, and forming a part thereof, is a shield or tab section 3, and carried by said section is a buckle 4, or the like, by which the belt may be adjustably secured about the waist of the wearer. The belt is also provided with a second shield or tab section, as indicated at 5. This tab however is provided with a loop 6 at its upper end through which the belt passes, thus permitting circumferential adjustment. Both shields are preferably constructed of cambric or any other washable material, and the lower ends are reinforced as at 7. As clearly illustrated in Figure 2 of the drawing, both shields are constructed of two thicknesses of material united at the edges by marginal lines of stitches and the reinforced lower portions 7 are formed by folding the material upwardly on itself. The
reinforced portions extend entirely across the lower portions of the shields and are connected at the top with the body portions of the shields by transverse lines of stitches.
The belt when applied is so placed that the adjustable shield will be disposed in back of the wearer, and conversely the fixed shield at the front of the wearer. When so placed it will only be necessary to attach the napkin or other device worn, as indicated at 8, by means of safety pins or any other suitable fastening means.
The fixed shield forms a considerable portion of the belt and as it engages the front of the wearer and presents a considerable supporting area, it can readily be seen that any pull or strain exerted will be carried thereby and that some sag can be allowed in the narrower portion of the belt without affecting the comfort of the wearer. The front or fixed pad or shield 3 is of such a large area that any pull transmitted thereto will be distributed over a large surface and a comparatively small amount of pull is thus transmitted to the belt which forms only a small portion of the entire structure. The front and rear shields 3 and 5 are approximately of uniform size and the pull is equally distributed on both and the only sag that will occur will be around the hips. The front and rear shields being made of cambric or similar material are supported through contact with the body of the wearer and thereby enabled to operate as explained.
The belt can be readily launderedwhenever required, and as the lower ends of the tabs are reinforced, tearing by pins, etc., and excessive wear will be avoided.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is- A supporter of the character described comprising a front shield, a narrow nonelastic belt adapted to encircle the waist of the wearer and attached at one side to the front shield at the top thereof, a fastening member at the opposite side of the said shield at the top of the sameto secure the belt-thereto, and a rear shield provided at the top with a loop located wholly within the marginal area of the said rear shield and receiving the said belt and slidable on the same, said front and rear shields being of apron shape and relatively long, and downwardly tapered, and highly flexible to conform to relatively large areas of the wearer Without discomfort, said shields being composed of two thicknesses united at the edges by marginal lines of stitching, and
the lower portions of the shields beingreinforced by folding the material upwardly on itself and the reenforced areas extending en 10 tirely across the lower portions of the shields to receive attaching pins.
SARAH B. \VOOSTER.
