TURNTABLE FOB TALKING MACHINES.
Application 'filed October 30, 1920. Serial No. 426,779.
T all whom it may concern:
Be it known. that I, JOHN KRALUND, a citizen of the United States, residing in the borough .of Brooklyn, city of New York, county of Kings, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Illinachines, of which the followingis a specification.
invention relates to an improved form is designed to produce a turn-table which shall be of light construction,
inexpensively made, readily assembled and of attractive appearance and with the further advantage that the same should at all times rotate in I shorizontal plane without deviation.
the disc, which vI'achieve these results by the provision of a spider having hub and rim portions and portiens connecting the same, in which the maintain its shape at preferably formed by the die casting process, by whicha maximum of uniformity may be secured. This spider is preferably formed of aluminum or other light metal.
- A thinmetal disk is mounted upon the spider and a covering of felt or the like,
such as is usually used upon talking ma-,
chine turn-tables, is secured upon this disc. The disc is preferably secured to the spider by means of clips formed on or punched from the disc, which are extended through suitable openings in the spider and bent to posit/ion 'to hold the disc flat uponthe spider. The felt covering is preferably stretched over the metal disc and secured thereto by means of prongs on the edge of pass thrilugh the edge portion ofthe felt and: are turned over on the under side. A peripheral recess is prefer the upper face of the ably providedupon the outer rim portion,
spider, adjacent to and the turned over edge of the felt cloth and the prongs referred to are received within this recess.
In order that a clearer understanding of my invention may be had attention is hereby directed to'thc aocompanyingdrawings forming part of this application and illustrating one form of myinvention. lnthe drawings Fig. 1. represents a side elevation of a turn-table embodying my invention, parts being shown broken away and parts shown in section, Fig. 2 is a partial bottom plan-view of the same, Fig. 3 is an enlarged partial vertical section taken on line 3'--3 of Fig: 2, Fig. e re a artial vertical. section through the rim portion of. the construction taken on line 4- 1 of Fig. 2 drawn to a further enlarged scale and Fig. 5 is a partial enlarged bottom plan view of the metal, disc with the cloth covering thereon.
Referring to the drawings the spider 1 is preferably a metal casting, preferably a diecasting of aluminum or other desired metal having a central hub 2, a peripheral rim 3 and radial arms 4 connecting the hub and rim. A web portion 5 is also shown as connecting the hub and rim. The construction is so made as to provide an equal distribution of the metal in all directions radially from the centre. The hub 2 is provided with a central vertical opening 6 through which the rotating spindle of thetalking machine may be inserted in the usual man-' nor, .a sleeve 7 being mounted in opening 6 if desired.
A thin metal disc 8 is provided which may suitably be formed of tin plate. This disc is provided with a extending clips 9 which may suitably be formed by punching the same, from disc 8. The spider l is provided with a plurality of openings 10 therethrough through which clips 9 are adapted to extend. These openings are preferably formed adjacent to the arms 4 of the spider so that the'cl'ips 9 may be turned over into binding engagement with arms 4.
A covering 1.1 of felt cloth or other suitable material is stretched over and secured upon the upper surface of disc 8. The latter is preferably provided with pointed prongs 12 formed aboutthe' edge of the same to extend radially. When the felt disc 11 has plurality of downwardly,
portion turned under the edge of the metal disc 8, as is shown at 11-, the prongs 12 then being bent inwardly beneath the edge portion 11 of the felt.
The spider is PIOVldGil Wltll a peripheral recess 13 in which the edge portion 1 1 of the felt and the prongs 12 are received when the device is assembled.
in assembling the device, the felt covering is secured, upon the metal disc 8 whereupon the latter is positioned on the spider with clips 9 extending through openings 10 after which the clips are turned over to secure the metal disc With its covering to the arms of the spider. When so mounted, the metal disc will lie fiat upon the upper surface of the spider, the upper surface of the felt covering being in horizontal alignment with the upper surface of rim 3, the disc 8 being of a suitable diameter so that this disc with its felt covering will fit within the upwardly extending rim portion 3' as shown.
It should be understood that my inven- -tion is not limited strictly to the exact deabout its edge, and a cloth disc stretched over said disc, said prongs being extended through the cloth disc and bent over to secure the same in position. a i
2. A turn table for talking machines, co nprising, in combination, a spider having hub, rim and ,web. portions and openings through said web portions, a metal disc supported on said spider and having clips excover member stretched over said disc and.
doubled under the edge thereof, prongs about the'edge of said metal disc penetrating said doubled under portion of said cover member and bent to secure the same to said disc, and a spider in supporting position below said disc, said spider having a horizontal supporting surface and. an annular recess for said doubled under portion of said cover member. and for said securing prongs. This specification signed and witnesses this 27th day of October, 1920. 1 JOHN KB-ALUN D. Witnesses? 1 I WILLIAM E. BAUERSOHMIDT, /VILLIAM R. AHRBERG.
