LABEL r-Ioitnnn.
A ncanoamed February 15, 11932.1] Serial .'i\To. 536,726.
1 o all whom it may concern:
Be it lrnown that l, FRANK F. Smirrs, a citizen of the United States, residlngat Bryn Mawr, in the county oi. Montgomery and State of Pennsylvania, new and useful Improvements in Label :llolders, of which the followinn a specification. e M
This nvent on relates to lal'iel hol'ders and it has more particular reference to de vices or means for use in association Wllilh plant designating devices, said. devices being devised with the object of giving a visible indication as to the nature'oia plant, tree or shrub in a manner that will beeilectively preserved from deterioration bypthje elements.
The primary object or my invention is to provide a device of the foregoing nature which includes a resilient wire supporting" member furnished with looped portions in which may be positioned a transparent tubu lar container that 1s adapted to house a slip of paper or designatinglabel carrying the identification marking of the tree, plant or shrub, the same being visible through the wall of said transparent container.
Furthermore, the WlI'G supporting member is provided with an outwardly bent portion that limits and supports a bottle in relation to the said supporting member when the same is positioned through thelooped portions,.the bottle or other transparent con .tainer being perfectly inserted therein with the open end downward to prevent the ele ments attacking the identification slip or label contained therein. The article as a whole may be supported by penetrating the lowermost end of the wire supporting memher into the earth or other suitable loca With the foregoing objects in view my innvention consists essentlally 1n the novel construction of transparent container supporting member hereinafter fully described and in the particular combination and arrangement of parts later on fully disclosed and more specifically defined by the appended claim.
In. the further disclosure of the invention referenceis to be hadto the accompanying sheet of drawings constituting a part'of this specification and in which likefcharactersof reference designate the same orcorresponding parts in all the views. Figure 11slan elevation of a potted have invented vide the supporting parent container or bottle 8 is effected by an intermediate plant illustrating-the application thereto of one practical embodiment fotmy invention.

holder containinng device and supporting means, tliesteni oi. the suppmrtingmeans being brokenaway or 1n section.
"liigure iii-is a perspective view oil. a suit able transparent container for containinr the identification marking and data; and, O
Figure l is a perspective view illustra tive of the supporting member with the transparent identification label container shown in dot-and-dash lines in connection therewith, I
I By way otjexample I have illustrated my 'IIlVBl'llJlOlfl as appl ed 111 connection VV lllllqiL to conveniently house an ordinary label 9 on which is depicted or written the name and dateor other information it is desirable to preserve in connection with the plant. My novel identification device 7 is cone. veniently formedv from a length of wire which is appropriately bent to provide :1. substantially circular end coil 10, an intermediate coil 1.1 and. a supporting shoulder 12, said end and. intermediate coils 101, 1].
. being oi. a diameter to snugly house and con "tain the above referred to transparent container or bottle 8. The wire '7 at its upper portion is as stated formed to provide a means for firmly holding the tubular bottle or container 8 "for the identification slip or label9 on which thehistory or other data relative to the plant is marked for. further reference. The bending of the wire to pro-.
part 12 for the transbending under or turning portion of the wire to provide the loop 1]. aswell as the shouldered portion 12 and the bottom length or shanlr 13 whichv may be conveniently pointed or otherwise finished ofltor easy. insertion into the ground. The
transparent or tubular container 8 is conveniently made of glass in the form of a small bottle having a closed end with the neck portion 14: thereof adapted to seat upon the aforesaid shoulder 12 so that it is etfectly prevented from being forced into the around or earth contained in the pot 5. In the use of my novel device for identifying plants, shrubs, bushes or the like, the transparentcontainer 8 housing the identification slip 9 is positioned in the loop portions 10,
'llhviththe neck 14 downwards andin close abutment upon the shoulder 12, the resiliency oi": the loop portions 10, 11 serving to effect the secure holding oi said container or bottle 8 against accidental displacement with relation to the Wire supporting; means 7. To eremove the bottle or container 8 to change the identification marking, slip 9 the bottle or container is clasped at its upper closed end and drawn OHtWELIdsflS will be clearly un derstood from an examination of the drawings.
From the foregoing description and an examination of the drawings it Will be read ily seen that by my invention I have provided 'a simple and very useful article for the purposes specified and. I wish it clearly understood that Whilst there has been shown and described a preferred embodiment thercoi the same is susceptible of minor detail changes or variations and the right is hereby reserved to make such changes or alterations as fairly lie within the scope of the appended claim.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
In combination an identification label holder comprising a trans arent tubular container adapted to enclose an idcntiiira tion label, a supporting means for said transparent tubular container consisting of a length of Wire fashioned with an end looln an intermediate loop and a laterally disposed supporting shoulder, said end and intermediate loops and the supporting shoulder being' adapted to enclose and grip the transparent identification label container or tube, and an extension from thi aforesaid shoulder that constitutes a supporting, member "for the device.
In testimony whereof I ailix my signature.
FRANK F. SEIDTS.
