Description

C. L. HOUSEHOLDER. DISPLAY STAND FOR DISCHARGE CERTIFICATES. APPLICATION FILED JUNE 5.
1919- RENEWED NOV. 3,1921- Patel 117611 May 30, 1922.
, INVENTOR L MaseZo/der By UTORNEYS certificate,
FHE,
' DISPLAY STAN'D FOB DISCHARGE CERTIFICATES.
Application filed ll'une 5, 1919, Serial Ne.;302,0?8.
T 0 all w/wmc't may concern Be it known that I, 'Ci-mnLns'L. Housmnononn, a citizen of the-United States, and
a resident of lVashington, District of Columbia, have invented certain new'and useful improvements iii-Display-fitancls for Discharge Certificates, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improvement in display stands or cabinets, and one of the principal objects thereof is to provide a stand for the attractive display of the certificates of honorable discharge of men in military or naval service. i l
Another object of the invention is to providea frame for receiving the discharge such frame being rotatably mounted upon a base in such a manner that it may be turned in various positions to be viewed from different angles.
A further object of the invention is to provide an improved display stand of the class described which will be exceedingly simple, durable, and efficient in operation and which may be manufactured at small, cost.
Vith these and other objects in view which will become apparent as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which like characters of reference indicate like parts throughout the several figures, of which.
Figure 1 represents an elevational view of a stand constructed according to my invention;
Figure 2 represents a vertical sectional view therethrough, taken at right angles to Figure 1; and 1 Figure 3 represents a top plan view of the stand, the cap piece being removed.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, the stand includes a rectangular frame consisting of side pieces 5 and end pieces 6-, the upper end piece being longitudinally slotted as at 7, in order that the plates of glass 8 may be inserted into the frame and in order that the discharge certificate, not shown, maybe put in place between the plates of glass. The edges of the glass are supported in a groove 9 cut in the inner face of the two side pieces and the lower end piece. In this manner the glass is removably retained in position in the frame.
Specification of Letters Patent.
RenewedNovember 3, 1921. Serial No. 512,575.
A cap piece, indicated at 10, is provided adjacent its ends with dowels 11, which fit in the recesses '12 within the cross pieces 6- so that the cap is removably disposed uponthe'-frame. 'The' cap piece may-be removed to insert the dischargecertificate and may be then replaced to add a finish to the frame Patented May 30, 1922.
and to prevent accidental loss of the glass or the certificate from the frame. The grooves for receiving the glass are wide enough to snugly engage the edges of the glass when the glass plates are separatedv the thickness of a sheet of relatively heavy paper, and thus when the cap piece is in place the discharge certificate will be snugly held and will be protected from dust and dirt.
A standard 13 supports the frame, being provided at its upper end with a pin 14 engaging in a recess in the frame, portions of the standard adjacent to the pin 14 being shouldered at 15 to provide a steady and strong support for the frame. The standard is rotatably mounted in a base 16, which, similar to the standard, is of an attractive.
appearance, and this base is centrally provided with an opening through which the lower end of the standard projects, the shoulder 17 on the standard resting upon the top of the base. Below the shoulder 17 the standard is provided with a reduced portion 18, fitting into the upper end of the opening through the base, and this reduced portion is again reduced, as at 19, to extend through the lower portion of the openm foihned which rests against the shoulder 21, formed at the junction of large and small portions of the openingv provided in the a shoulder 20 in the shank being thus 1 base. The lower end of this opening is countersunk, as at 22, to receive a screw 23 which screws into the lower end of the stem of the standard. The screw extends through service, or may be otherwise attractively ornamented. The entire stand may be painted mahogany or any other suitable color, as desired.
, Although I have described the preferred embodiment of my invention Imay desire frame being grooved, panes of glass slidably engaged Within the grooves in said side members and set Within the groove in said bottom member, said panes of glass being spaced apart whereby to accommodate therebetwcen a sheet to be displayed, a top member for said frame having beveled ends conformingly engaging the beveled upper ends of said side members and being provided With a slot through which the panes of glass extend, and a cap piece having the same length assaid top member and carrying dowel pins engaged Within sockets in said top member.
