f CLEVELAND CHRISTIAN sHnL'roN, oFBUCKivER, VIRGINIA;
o'Bnoor/i nonnen.
To @ZZ wlmi/fit mayconcern-j: j Be 1t known that I, CLEVELAND' CHRis'riAN SiiiiiiroN, a ,citizen ofthe United States, i'esiding at Buckneiginv the county oi' Louisa, State of Virginia, have invented ya newand useful Broom Holder j and I do hereby declare the following"` 'to`=` be awfull, clear,'and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
-The invention relates to broom holders and has for its object to provide a device of this character. which may be easily attached to a wall or the like and supported in a hori zontal plane for holding a plurality of brooms in such a manner that said brooms may be easily and quickly removed for vending. Y y
A further object is to provide a broom holder formed from a pair of hingedly congether adjacent their hinged points by coiled springs, which coiled springs normally hold' vinwardly extending semi-circular ends of the hinged' members in engagement with each other. Also to form'one of said members and a supporting arm carriedthereby from a single piece of metal, said metal being twisted at its rear end to form a right angularly disposed arm adapted to be attached to la wall, and also to form spaced flanges between which flanges the inner end of the `other hinged arm is pivoted.
With the above and other objects in view the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings, described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings Figure l is a perspective view of the holder.
Figure 2 of the inside of one of the hinged members, which member has formed' integral therewith a wall engaging arm,
Figure 3 is a top plan view of the rear end of the holder, showing parts in section to better illustrate the structure.
Referring to the drawings, the numerall designates a broom holder, which holder comprises spaced barsin parallel relation to each other, said bars being designated by the numerals 2 and 3, The outer ends of the Specification ofiLettei's Patent. ik "Patented .Aplg, 1922.
Application-flied september 4i1, iaziijseriai No. seaisa i Y bars 2 and'3 are provided with' inwardly ex" Vsuch al manner that broom"handlesmaybe Y -orcedbetween thelport'ion 4 against the vaction of lthe spring- 5.' The members l2 I and 3 adjacent their rearward end are bent in wardly as at 6 and are pivotally connected :to-
gether at 7, thereby forming a pivotal point on which the member or bar 3 may pivot outwardly in a broom receiving ory removing operation. When a broom is removed by vpulling the same outwardly, it will be seen that the broom handle 8 will force the bar-3 outwardly against the action of the spring 5;'V howeverthe other brooms being supported'v will be held in the holder. Y The bar 2 is preferably formed from a piece oi' strap iron bent upon itself centrally to'form the channel2a between the flanges of which thelug 9 yof the bar 3 is pivoted, f i
which lug extends through an aperture l0 in the bottom of the channel 2, said flanges forming means :tor bracing the armand se- Y curely vholding the saine against wobblingV which screws may bep'assed for securing the broom holder as a whole to a'wall or support.
From the above it will be .seen `that a broom holder is provided which is simple in construction and one which may be easily and quickly applied to a wall or support.
'lhe hinged bar 3 may be also formed from a single piece of strap iron and between the flanges 3FL thereot1 and the langresV 2b' of the bar 2 the ends of the coiled springimay be securedon pins 12. i
is claimed las new and `useful is 1 The invention having been set forth what V l. A broom'holder comprisinghingedly connected horizontallyy disposed bars, the
-free ends of said bais being provided with inwardly extending members for engaging.
eachother and limiting the' inward Amove?` mentor1 the free ends of the bars, a coiled ll -spring disposed between said bars and havf *Y ing its ends connected to the bars adjacent their hinging pointsand an upwardly extending integral armcarried by one of said bars and forming means whereby the .holder as a whole may be attached to a support.
2, A broom holder comprising a pair of spaced bars, the outer ends of said bars being provided with inwardly extending semicircular portions horizontally disposed and adapted to engage each other and limit the inward movement of the bars, the rear ends Y of said bars curving inwardly towards each other and pivotally connected together, one oi' said bars being formed Jfrom a strip of metal bent to form inwardly extending horizontally disposed flanges, said last named bar being bent at a point beyond the pivotal points between the bars at a right angle, thereby forming a supporting arm adapted to be attached to a support, the other bar being formed lfrom a single strip of material bent upon itself to form horizontally disposed flanges and a lug adapted to be received between the flanges of the other bar and to be pivoted therebetween for forming the hinging point between the bars, a coiled spring disposed between said bars and means whereby said coiled spring may have its ends secured between the flanges of the hinged bars.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
