Description

F- G. DUPELL.
TOY.
APPLICATION HLED APR- 30, I92).
Patented Apr. 4, 1922.-
IN VE/V TOR FRANK G. DUPEL L A TTORNEYS WITNESSES gum-L 1 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRANK GERARD DUPELL, 0F BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR T0 FELIX G. AGRESTA, OF BROOKLYN NEW YORK.
TOY.
To all w 710m it may con-cam.
Be it known that I, FRANK G. DUPELL, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, Sheepshead Bay, borough of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Toy, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to toys and has for an object to provide an improved air operated toy wherein means are caused to operate which will attract the eye and please the operator.
Another object of the invention is to provide a toy which is operated by blowing air therein, the structure being such that a signal or alarm will be sounded simultaneously with the movement of certain parts of the device. 7
A still further object of the invention is to provide a toy arranged to act somewhat similar to corousels but of a size to be carried in the hand and operated by blowing with the mouth whereby certain parts will move and other parts will produce sound.
In the accompanying drawing- Figure 1 is a side view of a modification of the invention, certain parts being broken away.
Figure 2 is a sectional view through Figure 1 on line 2 Referring to the accompanying drawing by numerals, 1 indicates a casing or housing; having a base 2 secured thereto, which base is provided with an ornamental flange 3 fitting against the exterior of the casing 1 and formed with notches throughwhich the posts 1 extend. The respective posts at are preferably made from hollow sheet metal though they may be made from other material. Three posts have been shown but a greater or even less number could be used without departing from the spirit of the in vention.
A cone-shaped cover 5 is secured to the top of these posts, said cover being hollow and having a number of bells 6 pivotally connected to the interior thereof. These bells are positioned so to be struck by the arm 7 of rod 8, which rod is secured to the ornamental central fiXture 9, which fixture in turn is secured to the rotating; platform 10. This platform is connected with a supporting pin 11 journaled at 12 in the bottom 2. A wind-motor or wheel 13 is rig-idly secured Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 4, 1922.
Application filed April 30, 1921. Serial No. 465,773.
"to pin or shaft 11 and when a suiiiciently strong pressure of air enters the guiding passage-way 14, the motor together with pin 11 and parts connected therewith will be rotated. As the parts rotate the shaft 8 will also rotate and will successively strike against the bell 6 for producing sounds. If these bells are properly arranged, a chime effect will be secured so as to imitate to a certain extent the usual musical instrument provided with carousels.
In order to give a more exact appearance, number of figures 15 are provided 011 the platform 10, said figures being shown as horses but other figures could be used without departing from the spirit of the invention. Preferably, a flexible tube 16 is connected with the tube 17 forming the passage-way 14;, said tube 16 preferably carrying a, mouth piece 18 whereby a child or other operator may readily blow into the casing 1 in such a manner as to cause the motor or propeller 13 to rotate and, consequently, rotate the various parts as just described.
Instead of having several bells 6, one bell could be used if preferred or some other form of musical device which can be operated by the arm 7.
What I claim is 1. A toy carousel formed of a size to be carried in the hand comprising a casing capable of being grasped by the hand, a wind operated wheel arranged in the casing, a tube connected with said casing for directingair to said wheel, a pin secured to said. wind wheel. and journaled in said casing, a rotatable platform secured to one end of said. pin and supported thereby. a number oi? figures arranged on said platform, a rod provided with an arm secured to said platform and rotated thereby, and a bell arranged in the path of movement oi. said arm so that as said platform rotates the bell will be struck.
2. A toy of the character described com prising a casing, a base for said casing, a plurality of uprights connected with said casing, a cover connected with the upper end of said posts, a shaft extending through said casing, a platform secured to said shaft, a wind operated wheel secured to said shaft, means for directing a blast of air to said wheel for rotating the same, means arranged on the platform simulating the fixtures of a carousel, an arm carried by said platform, and abell carried by said cover adapted to be struck by said arm as it rotates.
A toy of the character described comn-isin a easin a base for said casin :1
a g: a
plurality of uprights connected with said base, a covering supported by said uprights, a plurality of bells supported by said covering so as to swing beneath the covering, said bells being in the same plane, a shaft extending through said casing, said shaft arm, said arm as it 20
