WEST VIRGINIA, AND HENRY KIELBERG,
OF MARTIN'S FERRY, OHIO, ASSIGNORS TO WHITAKER-GLESSNER COMPANY, OF WHEELING, WEST VIRGINIA, A CORPORATION OF WEST VIRGINIA.
BURNER-SUPPORTING BRACKET FOR/OIL STOVES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed April 19, 1921. Serial No. 462,564.
Be it known that we, IVILLIAM IV. Hon LOWAY and HENRY KIrLnnns, citizens of the United States of America, and residents, respectively, of Wheeling, county of Ohio, and State of Vest Virginia, and Martins Ferry, county of Belmont, and State of ()hio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Burner-Supporting Brackets for,
Oil Stoves, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates broadly to burners for oil stoves, and more specifically to a supporting bracket for the actuating lever whereby'the level of the burner is adjusted.
The primary object is to provide a simple and inexpensive form of bracket for supporting the burner raising and lowering mechanism shown in the application of Harvey B. Reppetto, filed April 19, 1921, Serial No. 462,527.
A further object is to provide a bracket of simple and economical construction designed not only as a support for the operating mechanism mentioned, but also as a brace for the burner supporting pipe.
In describing the invention in detail, reference is herein had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of the invention, applied;
Figure 2 is an end elevation of the invention with the operating lever mounted thereon, said lever being shown in section;
Figure 3 is plan view of the sheet metal blank from which the bracket is formed; and- Figure 4 is a similar view, showing a modified form of blank.
Referring to said drawings, 1 indicates the fuel supply pipe of an oil stove, 2 a standpipe rising from said supply pipe, 3 a feed tube telescopically disposed with respect to said stand-pipe, and 4 a burner head or trough which surmounts said feed tube. Fixed to and depending from said burner head 4 at opposite sides of said feed tube are friction plates 5 with which cooperate spring fingers 6 formed on the ends of an operating lever 7 whereby said burner head is raised and lowered to vary the level of the oil in the latter; all as disclosed in the aplication of Harvey B. Reppetto, hereinbeore referred to.
As hereinbefore indicated, the present in ventlonis directed to the provision of a combined support for the lever 7 and brace for the stand-pipe 2. The device is made of a single sheet-metal blank, the preferred form of Which is shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings. In its fabricated form, said device comprises a centrally disposed horizontal panel 8 surmounting two oppositely disposed inclined legs 9 of panel-like form having fiat feet 10 adapted for resting upon the stove bottom 11 by which the supply pipe 1 is supported, said feet being provided with holes 12 for the reception of bolts 13 by which they are rigidly attached,
to said stove bottom. Formed on the outer edge of each leg 9 is a lug or ear 14 having a bolt-hole 15 therein, said ears being turned upward at right angles to the planes of said legs and being designed to be bolted against the front wall 16 of the stove. In cutting out the blank, the formation of the ears 14 produces correspondingly shaped recesses 17 in the inner edge of the next adjacent blank, said recesses being contiguous to and defining portions of the opposite lateral edges of an inwardl extending tongue-like prolongation or projecting end 8 of the panel 8; and in producing said projecting end or tongue 8 a correspondingly shaped recess 18 is formed in the outer edge of the next adjacent blank, said recess being located between the ears 14 of such adjacent blank and extending inward into said blank a considerable distance, as shown in Fig. 3. Said tongue serves as a support or brace whereby the stand-pipe 2 is firmly held in upright position, an aperture 19 provided in the tongue having said stand-pipe extending upward therethrough.
Struck up from the panel-like legs 9 are tongues 20 which are bent upward into overhanging relation to the panel 8 and have upright terminals between which is fitted the Patented Jan. 17, 1922."
operating lever 7, the latter being mounted upon a pivot-pin or bolt 21 which is disposed in holes 22 rovided in said terminals.
A slight y modified form of bracket is produced from the form of blank shown in Fig. 4, which has its width increased to the extent that, when shaped into bracket form, it overlies the supply pipe 1, opposite recesses 23 being provided in the feet 10 and legs 9 for the snug reception of said pipe.
constructed of a single sheet-metal blank having a form which provides for a plurality thereof being cut or stamped from a sheet with little or no waste of material.
What is claimed is- 1. A device of the character described comprising a one-piece sheet-metal supporting bracket consisting of two opposite relatively inclined panel-like supporting legs, a horizontal panel surmounting said legs, and tongues struck up from said legs and bent upward into approximate meeting relation over said panel, and a lever pivotally mounts ed upon said tongues.
2. A device of the character described com )rising a one-piece sheet-metal supporting racket consisting of two opposite relatively inclined panel-like supporting legs, a
horizontal panel surmountin said legs, and tongues struck up from sai legs and bent upward into overhanging relatlon to said panel, said tongues having parallel upright terminals disposed adjacent to each other,
and a lever pivotally mounted upon said tongues. v
4. A onepiece sheet-metal supporting bracket for the purpose specified, comprising two opposite relatively inclined panellike supporting legs, a horizontal panel surmounting said legs, and tongues struck from said legsand bent upward into overhanging relation to said panel, said tongues having parallel upright terminals disposed adjacent to each other, said panel being prolonged at its inner end to form a projecting tongue, said tongue being apertured, and attaching ears formed on the outer edges of said legs.
In testimony whereof we aflix our signae tures in presence of two witnesses.
\VILLIAM NV. HOLLOWAY.
. HENRY KIELBERG;
Witnesses t v G. 0. SMITH, H. E. DUNLAP.
