Be it known that I, WALTER L. Ro'rHs- CHILD, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New Rochelle, county of Westchester, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Cards for Holding Buttons, of which the following is a specification.

Heretofore buttons have been secured to sewing with stitches which pass through the holes in a button and the c ard, which stitches are made by hand. Thls 1s a slow and expensive way of securing buttons, although it was the only practical way in many cases.

The object of my invention is to provide a simple, easy and effective means for securing buttons which will allow an easy removal or replacement of the buttons on the card. This object is accomplished by my invention, some embodiments of which are hereinafter more particularly set forth.

Figs. 6, 7 8 and 9 show further modifications, Fig. 9 being a cross section of Fig. 8.

Throughout the various views of the drawings, similar reference characters designate similar parts.

My improved button holder 1 may be made of cardboard or any other suitable material, and is preferably made of sheet in aterial, which is folded to form iaps 2 at its longitudinal edges, partially secured to the back 5 by glue 3 or any other suitable means, such as stitching or wiring. or what not. This securing is so proportioned that the iiexing of the iiap 2, on the insertion of the button 4 as shown in Figs. 3, 5 and 9 induces suiiicient pressure to retain the button in place. Each button 4 rests between the 1nterior of the flaps 2 and the back 5 of the holder 1. These buttons may be inserted at either end or, if desired, the ends may be secured so that none may escape.

In Figs. 4 and 5 the foregoing structure is modified so that shank buttons 6 may be secured irmly in place. This is done by providing a longitudinal crease 7 in the center of the back 5, as indicated, which crease forms a recess with ample space for each shank.

In Fig. 6 the structure is modified yet in another way by stiffening the back 5 by means of a suitable stifi'ener 8 which may be of card-board or corrugated paper or anything else that is suitable for the pur ose.

ln Fig. 7 the back 5 is Ashown per orated at 9 so that shank buttons may be inserted if desired and held firmly in place when in position. This embodiment of my invention may be filled or emptied by inserting or removing the buttons while the back is flexed so as to form a convex surface next to the buttons.

nThe embodiment of my idea shown in Figs. 8 and 9 is exactly the same as shown 1n Fig. 2, except that a band of paper or other material of a similar nature 10 is put about the package so as tol leave the ends uncovered and the side edges covered, as indicated, except that they are uncovered to a greater or less extent, as shown. The purpose of this band is to hold the back 5 and flaps 2 in proper relation at all times so that under no circumstances will the buttons 4 work loose while being stored, transported or displayed.

In the embodiment shown in Figs. 1 to 7 inclusive of my invention, all buttons may be easily removed by iiexing the back 5 so as to make it convex on the side next to the buttons and in the embodiment shown in Figs. 8 and 9 this may be done after the paper band l0 has been removed.

It will be understood that in all embodiments of my invention, the flaps 2 must press the buttons 4 or 6 with sufficient irmness to hold them true and in place at all times.

In view of the foregoing, it is obvious that my improved button card and holder acts without stitches and the buttons may be readily inserted or removed individually or collectively and that when in position in the card they are well protected and not allowed to Work loose.

While l have shown and described sonne embodiments oir' my invention, it is obvious that it is not'restricted thereto, but is broad enough to cover all Astructures that come within the scope of the annexed claims.

Having thus described my invention what l claim is:
