5. H. DlSTlN PACKAGE FOR ROLL PAPER Filed Mafch 12, 1923 IdwardHD/sfin I N V EN TOR.
64 TTORNEY3 Patented July 1, 1924.
UNITED TATES EDWARD IE. DISTIN,
OF KALAMAZOO, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR 1'0 1 it I BOX COMPANY, OF KALAMAZOO, MICHIGAN.
'o rune PACKAGE FOR ROLL PAPER.
Application filed March 12, 1923. Serial No. 624,600.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD DIBTIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city and county of Kalamazoo, State of 6 Michigan, have-invented certain new and useful Improvements in Packages for R011 Paper, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in I 1 packages for roll paper.
My improved package is especially designed by me as a holder or container for waxed, parchmentized and like papers for use for wrapping food and the like where it is desirable to entirely close the paper to exclude dust therefrom and to rmit the withdrawal and cutting off of sheets of the desired size with a minimum of handling.
The main objects of the invention are:
First, to provide an improved package for roll paper which is adapted also for dispensmg paper, that is, the paper may be drawn out and cut olf at desired lengths.
Second, to provide an improved dispens- 26 ing package for rolls of paper which, while being very eflicient; is also very economical and simple in structure, so that the boxes or packages may be used by the manufacturer as shipping boxes or containers.
Further objects, and objects relating to structural details, will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow.
I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means described in the following specification. The invention is clearly defined and pointed out in the claims.
A structure which is a preferred embodiment of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this application, in which:
Fig. I is an inverted perspective view of my improved package with the cutter blade moved from its operative position and disposed within the ackage, the walls of the box bein partially broken away to show structura details.
II is a side elevation -with the cutter blade in operative position and the paper partially withdrawn.
Fig. III is an enlarged vertical section on a line corresponding to line 3--3 of Fig. II.
Fi IV is a perspective view of the cutter b ade-or plate.
In the drawing similar reference characters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
Referring to the drawing, I provide a box body member 1 which is in practice made up of box material of suitable weight, the details of the joints not being illustrated as they form no part of this invention.
The cover member 2 telescopes within the body member. and its end walls and one side wall 3 are of such depth that they rest upon the bottom of the body. The other side wall 4 is cut away providing an opening through which the paper 5 may be passed. The paper is enclosed within the box as illustrated in Fig. III. p
I provide a plate of sheet metal 6 which is of such dimensions as to loosely fit within the body member at the side of the cover member with its upper edge 7 projecting to form a cutting, edge or blade for the paper. This plate 6 can be satisfactorily formed of relatively thin material, such as tin-plate, and may be withdrawn and'placed in the bottom of the box body as shown in Fig. I or it may be laid on top of the box for shippin and stora e.
y improve package-is very economical to produce in that the box body member and cover members may be fully formed on box machines. The plate 6 can be stamped or cut out from sheets of tin and assembled for operation merely by droppin into the box body member at the side of t e cover member as shown in Fig. III. The paper when out still rojects above the top. member, so that it may be conveniently grasped to be drawn out for cutting off another strip.
With this arrangement, the roll of paper is protected at all times, the box or package forming a desirable shipping box or carton and also a holder, which avoids the necessitIyIof handling the roll of paper.
av' thus described my invention, what I t zIaim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. A package for a roll of paper comprising a box body member open at the to and a cover member telescoping within sai body member with the edges of its end and one side wall resting on the bottom thereof, its other side wall being cut away permitting the paper being passed under and upwardly at the side of the same, and a of sheet metal disposed within the Ody plate ill with its upper edge projecting above the member at the side of d cutaway wall of said cover, said plate being of such dimensions as to rest wit the. body member with its upper edge projecting above the to thereof providing a cutting blade, said plate be freely removable.
2., A package for a roll of paper comprisa box body member open: at the top and a cover member telescoping within said body member with the dges of its end and one side wall restna; on the bottom thereof, its other side. wall being cut away permittin the paper be passed under and u war ly at the side of the same, and a p to of sheet metal disposed within the 1 member at the side of said cutaway i i of said cover, mid pl being of such dimons as to rest within the body mem-- her with its upper edge projecting above the top thereof providing a cutting lads.
3. A package for a roll of paper comprising a box body member open at the top and a cover member telping within said body member with the edges of its end and one side wall resting on the bottom thereof, its other side w being cut away permitting the paper being passed under and upwardly at the side of the same, and a blade disposed wit the body member at the side of said cover member and projecting above the top thereof.
ll. A dispensing package for roll papers comprising a box body member open at the top and a cover member telescoping within said body member and ha an opening at one side through which the paper may e i0 1 we; and upwardly at the side there of, and a plate of sheet metal disposed within the body member at the side of said cover member, said plate being of such dimensions as to rest wi the body member ne son cs top thereof providing a cutting blade, said plate being freely removable.
5. A dispensing package for roll paper compri a box body member open at the top, and a cover member telescoping within said body member and having an opening at one side through which the paper may be passed and upwardly at the side thereof, and a plate of sheet metal disposed within the body member at the side of said cover member, mid plate being of such dimensions as to rest wit the body memher with its upper edge projecting above the top thereof providing a blade.
6., A. dissing package top and a cover member telescoping within said body member and having a relatively narrow wall at one side permittin the paper h under such wall an to roll paper comprising a box body member open at the 7 upwardly at t e side thereof, and a blade disposed at the side of said cover member.
7, A dispensing pac.-- comprising a box body open at the top and a cover member telescoping within said box body and having an opening at one side tugh which the pmd upwardly at the si of the cover member, and a blade of m:- within the body member at the side 0 mid cover member to project above the top thereof.
1'!" for roll paper faper may be.
8. A. sensing-package for roll paper comprising a box body open at the top and a cover member telescoping wit mid box body and having an op at one side through which the paper may be passed upwardl at the side of the cover member, and a bla e disposed at the side of said cover mezrnber In witness whereof, l have hereunto set my hand and seal.
