HEEL.
Application lcd November 25, 1921. Serial No. 517,548.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that l, @runnin Gr. Yonne, a citizen of the United States, residing at Boyertown, in the county of Bei-lis, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Heel; and l do hereby declare the following to be full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains t malte and use the same.
The invention relates to heels .for boots and shoes and has for its object to provide a rubber heel, which heel may be quickly attached or detached to a metallic plate carried by the shoe and forming a part of the heel. Also to provide tongue and groove connections between the rubber heel and the metallic plate and to provide means whereby the rubber heel may be held against displacement after being received in the metallic plate forming a portion of the heel.
A further object is to provide a detachable rubber heel for boots and shoes, which heel is so constructed that .it may be easily and quickly detached and shifted to t.1 e other shoe when it becomes worn on one side.
A further object is to provide interchangeable detachable rubber heels.
l/lith the above and other objects in view the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings described and claimedg it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention may be made within. the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
ln the drawings Figure l is a perspective view of' the heel showing a portion of the shoe in dotted line.
Figure 2 is a transverse sectional view through the heel.
Figure- 3 is a longitudinal vertical section through the heel.
Referring to the drawings, the numeral l designates a metallic plate which is formed preferably from aluminum, and is adapted to be secured to the sole 2 of the shoe 3. The plate l is provided with an inwardly disposed marginal channel Il, which channel receives the tongue 5 of a rubber heel 6, which rubber heel has its sides flush with the sides of the plate i and underlying the bottom face 7 of the plate l. rlhe rubber heel 6 is forced in position from the forward side of the metallic plate l, and after being well seated with its tongue 5 in the channel t, a screw 8 is passed through the forward end of the rubber heel and through an aperture Qin the plate l and into the sole 2, thereby preventing forward movement of displacement of the rubber heel 6. When it is desired to remove the rubber heel 6, the screw 8 is removed and the heel removed from its position in interengagement with the metallic plate l. lt will be seen that by providing' a detachable heel that when the heel becomes worn on one side, it may be shifted to the heel of the shoe worn on the other foot. thereby getting maximum wear out of the heels.
The metallic plate l is preferably dished as shown at l0 and is provided with a plurality of apertures l1, through which nails may pass for permanently ahxing the metallic plate to the sole 2 of the shoe. lf so desired a liner 12 may be disposed in engagement with the inner side of the metallic plate l for preventing displacement of the securing nails 13.
The invention having been set forth what is claimed as new and useful is A. shoe heel comprising a metallic plate, the upper side of said plate being dished,
securing means passing through aperturesy of said plate, a transversely dished plate engaging the under side of the first mentioned plate and covering the securing means carried by the first mentioned plate, an inwardly extending flange carried by the rfirst mentioned plate and spaced from the under side of the transversely dished plate, a removable heel having a tongue and groove connection with said ilange and first mentioned plate and engaging the under side of the transversely dished plate and a securing screw extending through the removable heel and registering apertures in the first mentioned plate of thetransversely dished plate.
ln testimony whereof l have signed my name to this speciiication in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
