Description

CIGARETTE AND CIGAR HOLDER Filed April 18, 1922 Patented 7, "1323.,
FREDERICK N. TAFE, Oil? WELLINGTON, NEW' JERSEY.
CEGARETTE AND @IGM MULDER.
.application flied April 18, 1922. Serial No. 554,857.
To all 'u1/tom t may concern.:
Be it lrnown that 1, Fannnmcn N..'1`Arr, a citizen of the United States, res1d 1ng at Millington, inthe county ot Morris and State of New Jersey, have invented an 1mprovement in Cigarette and Cigar Holders, oi which the following is a spec1iicat1on.
My invention relates to a device lor holdingl a cigarette or cigar while belng smoked, and its object is to provide an ejector within the holder which w1l1 not interfere with the draft passage while smoking, but which may be operated with facility for pushingthe butt or short end of a cigarette or clgar from the holder.
The details oli the invention are hereinaiter particularly described.
1n the accopanying drawing.:-
Figure 1 is an elevation of a clgarette or cigar holder embodying my invention.
Fig. 2 is a section on the broken line 2-2 ot Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a similar view showing the ejector in extended position.
Fig. 1 is a view looking into the recelvindg end of the holder, the ejector being remove and ltig. 5 is a longitudinal section through the holder, showing a modification.
All the hgures are in enlarged size.
Similar reference characters denote like parts throughout the several figures.
The main body oit the holder may be of any convenient size or exterior shape, and while 1 have illustrated it as of one piece and prefer to so make it, the mouth piece or bit may, if desired, be a separate piece and screwed onto the body in the ordinary manner.
The main body portion 10 of the holder is provided at one end with a mouth piece or bit 11, provided with the usual draft passage 12.
The opposite end of the holder is provided with an opening 13 of a size to receive the end of a cigarette or cigar; this opening is circular and of uniform diameter for a predetermined distance from the end of the holder, beyond which point the diameter is gradually lessened by curvin the bore inwardly for a predetermined istance forming an annular curved recess 14. The bore is from this point continued lor a predetered distance of uniform diameter, providing a circular opening 15 of smaller diameter than the opening 13, and also providing at the inner end of this opening 15 a annular shoulder 16.
he bore is then continued of uniform diameter for another predetermined distance forming a circular passage way 17, at the innerend oi which this portion is gradually curved inwards forming a cup shaped recess 18 communicating with the draft passage 12 in the mouth piece. v
A spiral slot 19 is cut in the top ol the body portion 1() of the holder, whlch is of a length approximately the length of the parallel sided opening 13 in the end of the holder.
20, indicates the ejector, which is of a shape to closely lit the interior shape of the body 10 of the holder below its mouth, that is, the exterior of the ejector head 21, is curved inwardly to conform to the curved interior surface of the annular recess 1d, into which it is to t and be seated when the ejector is in a normal position as shown in F ig. 2. The ejector extends beyond the socket or recess 14, in uniform diameter for a certain distance and tits the passage way 15, in the body 10, being offset at 22, to seat against the annular shoulder 16, on the holder beyond which it extends in reduced uniform diameter to lit the bore at this oint in the holder, its extreme inner end 23 eing curved inwardly to closely ht into and seat within the cup shaped recess 18. The ejector is Provided with a central longitudinal draft passage 24, registering with the draft passage 12 in the mouth piece l1, and communicating with the opening 13, in the forward end of the body 10. r1`he front end of the draft passage 24: in the ejector is preferably slightly daring to enlarge the draft passage at that end, although this is not necessary.
A pin or screw stud 25, passes through the spiral slot 19, in the body 10, being slidable therein and provided with a suitable head 26, which serves as a finger grip in manipulating the ejector. rlhe lower end of this pin or stud is exteriorly threaded and is screwed into a threaded hole in the body of the ejector.
When the pin or stud 25 is moved forward, it carries the ejector forward within the holder, lifting the inclined portions 21 and 23 from their seats in the annular recess 14, and cup shaped recess 18, when the continued forward movement of the ejector will push a cigarette or cigar butt trom the mouth of the holder, without the necessity of touchin the butt with the fingers. The pin or stu 25 'is then moved backward in the slot 19, drawing the ejector back within the holder until its inclined head 21 and inner end 23 again seat within the annular recess 14 and cup shaped recess 18, shutting ofi' any possible draft passage between the exterior surface of the ejector and the interior surface of the holder. Owing to the shape of the slot 19, the ejector is given a turning movement which aids in more closely seating its inclined head and inner end with the sockets 14 and 18.
The ejector may be readily withdrawn from the holder for cleaning or other purposes, by simply unscrewing the pin or Stud 25.
While I prefer to provide the annular shoulder 16, on the interior of the holder, this may be dispensed with, and that portion of the bore between the annular recess 14, and cup shaped recess 18, be of uniform diameter, the diameter of the ejector between these points being made to correspond as illustrated in Fig. 5.
My invention provides a holder in which a cigarette or cigar may be smoked to a short butt and then ejected from the holder without liability of soiling or burning the fingers; the draft is only through the center of the holder, and the ejector being entirely inside of the holder is concealed from view, and in no way detracts from the appearance of the holder.
I claim as my invention.
1. A holder for cigarettes or cigars provided with a spiral slot, and having an interior annular socket with an inclined wall, a cup shaped recess beyond said socket and an intermediate passage way, an ejector fitting therein and provided with an inclined head to Seat into said annular socket and having its inner end inclined to seat into said cup shaped recess, and a stud passing through said spiral slot in the holder with its inner end removably secured to the ej ector.4
2. A holder for cigarettes or cigars comprising a body provided with a spiral Slot, and having a mouth piece at one end provided with a central longitudinal draft passage, the forward 'end of said body having an opening to receive one end of a cigarette or cigar, the inner end of said opening being inclined inwardly forming an annular socket with a-central opening extending a predetermined distance of uniform diameter, and terminating in a cup shaped recess having a central opening in register with the draft passage in the mouth piece, an ejector provided with a central draft passage, and an inclined head to seat within said annular socket in the body portion, and having its inner end inclined to seat into said cup shaped recess in the holder, and a stud passing through said spiral slot in the holder with its inner end removably connected to' the ejector. j
d. A holder for cigarettes or cigars, comprising a body portion provided with a spiral slot, and having a mouth-piece at one end provided with a central longitudinal draft passage, the forward end of said body having an opening to receive a cigarette or cigar, the inner end of said opening being inclined inwardly forming an annular socket with a central opening extending a predetermined distance of uniform diameter, an annular shoulder at the inner end thereof, said opening extending therefrom in uniform smaller diameter and terminating in a cup shaped recess having a central opening in register with the draft passage in the mouth piece, an ejector provided with a central draft passage and an inclined head to seat within said annular socket in the body, fitting the opening in the holder beyond said socket, and having its inner end inclined to seat into said cup shaped recess in the holder, and a stud passing through said spiral slotfin the holder with its inner end removably connected to the ejector.
