nfOnY GLENN emnsON, or DETROIT,
Application led Hay' 1,
- useful Improvements in Removable Window Guides, of which the following is a specif cation.
This invention relates to window guides and especially a window guide intended to guide a so called `sashless windowl in an automobile closed body.' -In a prior application No. 554,223, I have described ,and
claimed a rubber window guide covered with plush or any other slick material; The
guide described in that application was intended to be nailed to the window post. It is the object of the'present invention to provide a guide which can ,be'anchored to the window post without nailing.
This is a very important feature in body construction for the reason that it is the practice to put all but the last coat of paintis then rubbed and the final coat-varnish-- is put on the body with the trimming place. With the rubber channel window guide nailed tothe post this has to be nailed in place before the trimming is put on otherwise access cannot be had to the window well. Hence the last coat of varnish has to be applied with the channeled window guide in place. This will result in gumming up A the plush or velveteen cover of the lwindow guide so as to make lit unsightly and harsh.
It is the object of the present invention to so design the rubber channel and the holding members that same can be assembled into the window well and secured to the lupper part of the window post afterthe body has been trimmed and the final coat of varnish has been put on.
In the drawings? Fig. l is a fragmentary view of the front quarter of the body.
Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the window and window well'.
Fig. 3 is a cross section taken on the line 3--3 of Fig. 2, through the guide only.
Fig. 4 is a cross section taken on the line 4.-4 of Fig. l2.
Fig. 5 is a detail showing how the flexible strip can be fed into the window well.

1922. sei-iai No. 557,780.
The window stop' is recessed at the point a to provide a groove to receive the anchor- .f
ing rib. b and the channel window guide c. This window guide c is made up of a rubber channel of soft as velveteen, plush, satin orsimilar material. The opposite slde of the channel is provided pliable rubber over which. 1s secured a c overmg of soft material d such with a-longitudinally running anchoring rib -e which is adapted to lie'in a rabbeted por' tion f ofthe w1ndow molding g. This holds the strip to the upper portion ofthe post. In the window well before the trimmin material k is in place, the metal strip i .wit
anchoringl grooves c is nailed to the side of' I metal strip and slid down into place. The
, upper portion of the windowy guide channel may thenbe placed against the window post with the anchoring rib b fitted into the groove ain the window stop. The molding may then be secured to the window lpost by screws j.
This will complete the assembly and permitthe cloth covered window guide channel being inserted in the vwindow well and in the window stop after the -last coat Ofvar- A nish has been put onto the body and after the trimming material has beeninstalled.
What I claim is:
l. In a body construction, the combination of a window post provided with a stop having a longitudinal groove, a channel window guide constructed of soft d-istortable material provided with a rib on one side arranged to en age in the groove, anda rib on the other si e, and a window molding arranged to be engaged over one rib and against the post for anchoring the two ribs in place and holding the channel guide to the window post.
2. In a body construction, the combination of a window-well and a window post provided on its face with a channel member having one or more laterally offset grooves, and a channeled windowguide thatcan be slid into the channel and the offset groove or grooves from the top of the window well. a portion of the channelled guide interlocking in the groove or grooves offset from the channel member on the face of the post,
whereby the said Window guidemay be placed in the window Well after the same has been closed.
3. In a body construction, the combination of a post, a' window well, a retaining channel secured to the face of the post lin the window Well and provided With anchoring grooves, and a Window guide having'laterally extending ribs adapted to fit into the anchoring grooves of the retainlng member to enable the window guide to be slid into the retaining member after the Window Well ing grooves and a flexible Window guide channel having laterally disposed anchoring ribs which can be slid onto the retaining member in the top thereof and which can have one of the ribs anchored in the recess of the post, and a removable window moldirg for securing the other anchoring rib in ace. p 5. In a body construction, the combination of a window post, a Window Well, a sheet metal strip forming a channel having its edges turned over to form anchoring grooves and a window guide channel having a coreofsoft rubber covered with a slick material and provided with laterally, projecting anchoring ribs which enables the Window guide to be assembled -in the retaining member in the well b sliding the same in the' top after the win ow- Well has been closed.
6. In a body construction, the combination of a window post, a sheet metal channel having turned over edges forming anchoring grooves and a rubber channel member covered 'with a slick material and havingv laterally projecting anchoring ribs which enables the channel to be slid into the retaining member in the top thereof to assemble the same to the Window post.
7. In a body construction, the combination of a window post vprovided with a longitudinal groove, a rubber Window channel covered with a slick material and having laterally projecting anchoring ribs, one of which engages in the longitudinal groove of the Window post and a molding itted over the other anchoring rib to hold the channel to the post.
8, In a body construction, the combination of a Windov;7 post, a Window well, a Window guide retaining member secured to the face of the post in the Window well, and a flexible channel guide that can, independently of the opposite window guide, be slidably anchored into the said retaining member after the window Well has been closed by feeding the same intro the top of the retaining member.
ln testimony whereof l aix my signature.
EMORY GLENN SIMPSON.
