PIETER CUNNEEN, F NEW ROCHELLE, NEW YGRK.
TUMBLER WASI-IER.
Application i'led July 23, 1921. Serial No. 487,032.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known 'that l, PETER CUNNpnN, a citizen of the United States, residing at j N ew Rochelle, county of TWestchester, State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tumbler Tashers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to devices for washing tumblers, and has for its object to provide an integral device embodying both an interior and an exterior spray for the tumblers, the latter being capable of manipulation by the operator to wash with a comparatively small spray the entire exterior of the glass. l
This object l accomplish by formingthe exterior spray device with a flexible element, whereby it may be manipulated by the hand of the operator to project the water against any portion of the exterior surface of the tumbler.
My invention also embodies certain minor details of construction, as hereinafter more definitely will be pointed out and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which Figure l is a perspective view of my improved device.
Figure 2 is a detail vertical sectional view of the tumbler support.
Similar numerals of reference denote corresponding parts in the two views.
In the said drawing, the reference numeral 1. denotes a vertical water supply pipe having a coupling l adapting the same for attachment `to a faucet, the latter being shown at 3 in dotted outline. Fixed to the lower end of the pipe l is a horizontal pipe f2, upturned at its outer end and screwthreaded to receive a pan 4, which is adapted to support the tumblers to be washed. This pan is provided with a plurality of apertures at 5 to drain the same, and has a central upwardly projecting rounded hollow chamber 6 with the interior of which the pipe 2 communicates, as shown in Figure 2, said chamber being provided in its upper surface with a plurality of apertures 7 for the escape of jets of water, in a manner readily understood. Tapped into the side of the pipe 2 is a pipe 8 extending first horizontally and then vertically to one side of the pan 3, said pipe 8 being bent in U- form at its upper end at 9, and having attached to its free end a :flexible hose l0, preferably of rubber, to the lower end of which is attached a rose 11.
From the above description the operation of my device will be understood as follows :-A tumbler l2 to be washed is positioned inverted upon the pan 4, as shown in Figure l, and the water turned on at the faucet 3, thereby supplying water to the pipe l, the same' escaping in jets at 7. It will be understood that the capacity of said jets 7 is less than the supply through the pipe l, thereby maintaining a plenum of pressure in said pipes l and 2, which will force a portion of the water up the pipe 8 and cause it to discharge at the rose 11. The operator, by manipulating the flexible pipe 10 and rose 1l can direct the external spray to any portion of the glass, thereby very rapidly cleaning the exterior surface thereof, the interior surface being thoroughly washed by the jets 7 in the chamber 6, as readily will be understood.
It will be seen that the pipe l, which is adapted for ready attachment to and detachment from an ordinary faucet 3, forms the sole support for all the parts of the device, thereby not only adapting it for use with the ordinary kitchen sink, but presenting the same as an integral article of manufacture.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A tumbler washer, comprising a tumblerreceiving pan, a water supply ypipe connected with the bottom of said pan and supporting the same for supplying `wafer to the interior of the tumbler when positioned inverted in said pan, a flexible depending water supply pipe disposed above said pan for discharging water directively against the exteriory of the tumbler, a U-shaped pipe to which said flexible pipe is attached at one end and which has its other end tapped into said pan supply pipe, and a common supply pipe adapted for attachment to and detachment from a water faucet and connected to said pan supply pipe, said faucet supply pipe forming the sole support for said pan supply and flexible pipes.
ln testimony wherof I hereunto aiiix my signature.
PETER CNN EEN.
