LOUIS HERMANN, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
MASSAGE VIBRATOR.
Application filed August 2, 1919. serial No. 314,802.
this character, adapted to serve for massaging the human skin, which is simple in construction and efhcient in operation.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
The invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of part-s hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which,
Fig. 1 is a side view, shown partially in vertical section, of a construction embodying the invention.
Fig. 2 is a transverse section of the same.
'Ihe preferred form of construction, as illustrated in the drawings, comprises a hollow head 3, substantially spherical in form, and having a hollow handle 4 radiating therefrom, said handle being provided with a threaded nipple 5 threaded in one side of said head. An operating shaft 6 is rotatably mounted in the handle 4 and is provided with the usual socket for engagement with a flexible shaft 7 for operating the same. At its inner end the shaft 6 is provided with a face plate 8 having an eccentric crank pin 8, in the form of a roller, thereon. The roller 8 engages a groove 9 in the inner end of an oscillatory lever 10 pivotally mounted at 11 in a lateral, radiating hollow projection 12 projecting from the head 3 at right angles to the handle 4. It will be observed that the groove 9 is completely closed on the side away from the face plate 8, being open only on the side adjacent said face plate and at the inner end, whereby the roller 8 is substantially inclosed and protected and great rigidity given to the construction. The outer end 13. of the lever 10 protrudes from the end of projection 12 and is made hollow, slitted and externally threaded forv the reception of a message Contact member of a `usual or desired form. The head 3 is also provided with a ring 14, by means of which the same may be suspended on a nail. hook, or the like. By this arrangement, it
will be observed that, upon the rotation of shaft 6, the lever 10 will be caused to oscillate to and fro, impartinga desirable vibraktory motion to the massage contact member carried by the protruding end thereof. The specific form and arrangement of parts is a simple andeiiicient one for the purpose.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification without depart-1 ing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do noty wish to be limited to the precise details of the construction set forth, but desire to avail myselfv of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims. n
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A massage vibrator comprising a hollow head; a substantially straight oscillatory lever mounted in said head and protruding laterally from one side thereof,.the protruding end of said lever being provided withv means for mounting a contact member thereon; an operating shaft mounted to project into said head in operative relation with the inner end of said lever; and a crank pm on the inner end of said shaft, there being a longitudinal groove in said lever engaging said crank pin, said groove extending from the inner end of said lever to a point adjacent its fulcrum, substantially as described.
2. A massage vibrator comprising a no1- low substantially spherical head having a hollow handle radiating therefrom, said handle being provided with a nipple threaded in one side of said head; an operatingk shaft rotatably mounted in the handle and projecting into said hea-d; a face plate at the inner end of said shaft; an eccentric crank pin upon saidface plate; an oscillatory lever mounted in said head at substantiallyl right j angles to said shaft and projecting laterally from said head, the inner end of said lever being provided With a longitudinal groove engaging said crank pin, said groove eX- tenclng from the inner end of said lever to a point acljacentrts fulorum; and means at 5 the out-er end of said lever for mounting a Contact member thereon, substantially es described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification n the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
LOUIS HERMANN.
