VEGETABLE SLICER.

To aZZ whom it may 0001067 11.", v
Be lt'known that I, Jose M. Bnsinoina citizen of the United States, residing at Newark, in the county of Essex and Fitate.
of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Lnprovem'ents in Vegetable Slicers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to vegetable slicers and the main object is to provide a. slicer I useful for preparing vegetables or the like for the table or for culinary uses; The device has a cutting knife'which is arranged so that the latter may be adjusted to give various sizes of chips.
Another object is to provide a vegetable slicer which has means for retaining the slicer showing particularly the means for guiding the vegetable carrier.
Figure 2 is a top plan view of the same 7 showin the vegetable carrier at the end of the str ke.
Figure 3 is a sectional side elevational view thru the device.
justing means.
Figure 5 is a top plan view of the modified type of knife.
Figure 6 is a side elevational view of the same. j
Describing the drawing in detail, the numeral 1 indicates a platen having side frame members 2 formed therewith, and is pro vided with anangular slot 3 which extends across the carriage. llriangularchannels l extend thruout-the lengthof the side frames 2 on their mutually adjacent sides and above the platen 1. 1 I
A carrier plate 5 which has its edges formed into triangular guide surfaces 6, is slidably mounted in the corresponding-channels 4 of the side frames 2.
A substantially rectangular magazine in tegral with the carrier plate 5, is open at one of the end sides, and is provided with a cover 8 thru which a plungerrod19 passes.
The lower end of said plunger rod 9v has a feeding plate 10 secured thereto; the latter being urged downwardly by a coil spring 11 which 1s wound about the plunger 9 between the cover 8 andthe said feeding platelO.
Keyways 12, cut into the opposing edges of the feeding plate, engage corresponding,
' A handle member 15, rigidly secured to the upper end of said plunger rod 9, is provided for lifting the feeding plateto the top of the magazine when the latter is to be filled. When vegetables such as potatoes 16 are cast into the magazine the handle 15 is I released and the feeding plate urges the said potatoes thru a relatively large annular opening and intocontact with the slicing knife 17 which is setv into the slot 3 of the I platen 1. The cutting edge 17 of the knife is raised above the inclined surface 18 of the platen 1, the lowest point of said surface beingadj acent to the cutting edge of the knife.
latter being somewhat above, in alignment 1 with the said holes. 1 Figure 4 is a fragmentary elevational view of the carriage showing the knife ad The knife 17 has cars 22 projecting from justing screws 23 the latter being suspended from the projections 21.
Springs 24 are secured to the side frames 2 and the carrier plate 5 and'urge the latter over the cutting edge 17 of the knife when the said carrier plate is slid in the required direction. V
Figures 5 and6 illustrate a different type of knife and which is used when it is desired to cut the potato or vegetable into very small piecessimilar to granules. Said knife comprises a main body 25 upon which a plurality of ridges 26 are formed in such manner as-to have the vegetable presented to it at an angle. The direction in which the car rier plate passes over the knife is illustrated bythe arrows in Figure 5. y
In use the magazine is filled by lifting the handle 15 and inserting the'vegetables 16 beneath the feeding plate 10 which is then re- Alternately sliding the carrier plate 5 into,
the position shown in Figure 2-, and allowing it to be returned by the springs 24 to the opposite end of the platen 1, will present the vegetables to the cutting edge 17 of the knife, whence the vegetables will be sliced to the thickness equivalent to the distance between the lowest point of the inclined surface andthe cutting edge 1'? of the knife 16. The thickness of the slice to be out can be controlled by manipulating the screws 23 in v: the proper direction, which will either raise clined surface 8.
A slicing device of the class described comprising an angular slotted platen, a slicing knife mounted in said angular slot, plate members covering the ends of said slot havprojections formed thereon, ears on said cutting knife, threaded screws connecting said plate projections and ears of said knife,
said screws adapted to lift or lower said slicing knife, and means urging the vegetables into contact with the cutting edge of the knife.
In witness whereof I, affix my signature.
' JOSE M. BLANGO.
