Specification of Letters Patent. Pttn'ted FLl 19213.
Applicationiled February 12, 1918, Se'riaLNo. 216,753. Renewed July 8,919. Serial No. 309,479.
' To all v'whom it may f'oiccrn'.' l
`Be it known that I, Monnls Bannon", ik
citizen of the United States, anda reside of the city of New York, borough of Main hatten, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Underearment of which thefollowimnis a` full, clear, and enact description.
Theinvention relates to wearing apparel and its object is to provide a new and improved underga'rment, such-as an envelop chemise and the like, arranged to provide the desired fullness for sanitary and other purposes without producing an undesirable bulging at the hips andv impairment of the hang and appearance of the undergarment In order to accom lish thedesired result.`
the unitary body of t i garment is provided with short legs, each lia-ving at the outer sidev folds extending from the hips downwardly to the/'lower ends of theflegs and forming integral parts thereof.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the Views.
Figure 1 is a perspective View of the undergarment as worn and with the folds in normal position g.
. Fig. 2 is a similar View of the same and showing the undergarment extended atone leg thereof;
Fig. 3 is a front elevation of the lindergarment Fig. e is an enlarged sectionalplan View of one of the legs of the undergarment, .the section being on the line l--l of Fig. l;
- Fig.' -5 is a `similar' View of the samefwith the'folds extended; and
Fig. 6 is a cross section of the same on theline 6-6 of Fig. 4.
The unitary body l() of the undergarment is provided with the usual shoulder straps l1 for 'supporting the undergarment from the shoulders of the wearer. The lower por- `tion. of the body 10 terminates in short legs l2, each of whichis providcd at the outer side with folds or plaits 13 extending downwardlyfrom a point 14 Located approxi- ,the other and gradually increasing in width from tbe hips downward to the lower ends of tl1e'legs, of which the folds or plaits 13 form integral parts.,v It will be noticed that by the'arrangement described, the folds normally oi'erlie each other and hang straight downward thus preventing undue bulging at the sides o'f the g'arrnent, as will be readily understood by reference t9 Figs. l, 3, 4e and 6. It will lfurtherbe noticed that for sanitary or other purposes the legs may be enlarged or opened up to the' full width at the lower ends ofthe folds, as plainly indicated in Figs. 2 and 5 thus insuring the deu sired comfort'to the wearer. It will also be noticed thatby the arrangement described the legs of the garment remain circumferentially of'unbroke'n continuity whether the folds are closed or opened up.
.In practice each leg 112 is split at the enter side and the folds or plaits areformedof a single piece inserted at the said siit;
Having thus described my invention,
