J. BEHRINGER.
GAME APPARATUS. APPLICATION FILED MAR. 13, 1919.

K6 Mil/U2 John e/uzJ/a efl,
fltivr may UNITED STATES JOHN SEEKING-ER, OF GHIGAGO, ILLINOIS.
GAME APPARATUS.
Application filed March 13, 1919.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J OHN BEHRINGER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Game Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates generally to a game apparatus, the object being to provide a cheap, simple and novel game which will be highly amusing. A further object is to provide a game apparatus capable of being used in different kinds of games.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
The invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which,
Figure 1, is a top plan view of the device,
Fig. 2, a perspective view of the device in spinning position,
Fig. 3, a perspective view of the device in a position of rest, and
Fig. 4, a view of the reverse side of F1g. 1.
The preferred form of construction, as illustrated inthe drawings, comprises a spinning stem 1 having a plate 2 centrally fixedly secured thereon, said plate being octagonal in form or having eight fiat sides 3, as shown. The stem 1, as shown in Fig. 2, is convex at both ends, thereby adapting the device for spinning on either end of said stem. This is also facilitated by the positioning of the body 2 centrally on the stem 1. The body 2 may be secured to the stem 1 with glue, or any other suitable means.
The flat sides of the body 2 are distinctively colored, as red, green, blue and yellow, there being four distinctive colors used as there are four sets of sides opposite each other. The sides opposite each other, as 3 and 3, are colored the same.
One of the faces of the plate 2 is provided with diametrically arranged numbers arranged in pairs, as shown, there being a pair of number 5s, a pair of number 10s and a pair of number 15s and a palr of number 20s, said numbers being arranged opposite the flat sides of said plate, as shown in Figs. 1 and 3. On the opposite face of the plate 2 are distinctively colored dots 4, said dots being arranged in diametric pairs Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 11, 1919.
Serial No, 282,478.
opposite the flat sides of plate'2, as shown at 4, 4, 5 and 5, in Fig. 4.
The device is used in a game and is employed by spinning the device on either end of the stem 1. When the numbers on the device are used, a predetermined number is decided upon as the ultimate score of the game, the players then spinning the device in turns and scoring for themselves, the number appearing adjacent the edge upon which the device comes to rest. It will appear that as the player approaches the ultimate score, the device may come to rest on a number which would make his score greater than the predetermined ultimate score, in which case the number would not be scored and the next player would take his turn at spinning. If the device is used with the colored dots, each player may be allot ed a distinctive color and given a certain score each time the top comes to rest on a side opposite which his color appears, and in this way one player spinning may score for the other. The spots may also be used by spinning certain colors in succession, as red, white and blue, the series of colors being determined before-hand. The vari-colored sides may be used in a similar way as the dots, or the varicolored sides and dots may be used conj unctively, according to predetermined rules.
It is thus seen that the device affords a highly interesting and pleasing toy, one which is simple in construction, simple in its operation and economical in manufacture.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but
desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A top comprising a stem having an octagonal body fixedly mounted centrally thereon, the sides of said body being varicolored, with the opposite sides of said body colored the same, said top being adapted to spin on either end of said stem, substantially as described.
2. In a top, a stem, convex at both ends; and an octagonal body fixedly mounted centrally thereon," having diametrically arranged pairs of numbers on one face opposite the sides thereof, one number of each pair being arranged opposite the opposite side, opposite which the corresponding number is arranged, substantially as described.
' 3. In a top, a stem' convex at both ends; and an octagonal body fixedly mounted centrally thereon, having diametrically arranged yari-colored pairs of spots on one.
ranged pairs of numbers on one face opposite the sides thereof, one number of each pair being arranged opposite the opposite side, opposite which the correspondinv number is arranged and having diametrica lly arranged vari-colored pairs of spots on the other face opposite the sides thereof, one
spot being opposite the opposite side opposite'which the other similarly colored spot is arranged, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of a subscribing witness.
JOHN BEHRINGER.
