FIREARM-SIGHT.
Application filed November 5, 1918.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GEORGE N. LONG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Watervliet, in the county of Albany and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Firearm-Sights, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to firearm sights, the object in view being to provide a novel form of sight capable of being used in connection with a firearm of any description, the broad object in view being to obtain accuracy of aim, efiieiency in the use of the firearm and economy of ammunition.
A further object in view is to provide a device which will insure the more expeditious and thorough training of soldiers, officers and others, saving valuable time on the part of the instructors and the persons being instructed.
l/Vith the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement herein fully described, illustrated and claimed.

Fig. 1 is a side elevation of a firearm showing the improved sight in its applied relation thereto.
The improved sight consists of a tubular body 1. The body or tube 1 is preferably of a length approximately the same as the" length of the barrel of the firearm in connection with which the sight is used, and said sight may be fastened either on top of the barrel of the firearm or to one side of the barrel, the tube 1 extending in parallel relation to the barrel of the firearm.
In the breach end of the tubular sight 1 a core 2 is removably inserted. The core or insert 2 is approximately two inches or more in length and is formed with a small central longitudinal bore 3, the rear or outer end of which is flared or counterbored, as shown at 4:, forming a conical entrance to Specification of Letters Patent.

The remainder of the tubular sight 1 is left unobstructed with the exception of the extreme forward end thereof in which is placed a forward sight in the form of the letter Y, the same being composed of three wires or strands 6 intersecting and connected together at a central point 7 directly in line with the central longitudinal axis of the tube 1, and also in direct line with the bore 3 of the core or insert 2.
The tubular sight 1 is also shown as provided with a front and rear exterior sight 8 and 9 respectively which may be used for taking aim at a rapidly moving object. The improved sight is particularly designed for taking aim at objects which are standing still or moving slowly. By having the sight tube 1 of practically the full length of the barrel of the firearm, all rays of light are excluded from the sight tube throughout the length thereof, thus enabling a clear and accurate aim to be obtained. The eye of the operator is held at the flared end of the bore 3 of the core or insert 2 and when the center 7 of the forward sight into line with the bore 3 a perfect sight is insured.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is:
1. The combination with a firearm, of a sight tube attached thereto in parallel relation therewith and of a length approximately equal to the length of the barrel of said firearm, a core inserted removably in the rear end of said sight tube and having a central longitudinal bore of less diameter than the internal bore of said sight tube, and a forward sight in the forward end portion of said sight tube.
2. The combination with a firearm, of a sight tube of approximately the same length as the barrel of said firearm, said sight tube being mounted in parallel and spaced relation to the barrel of the firearm, a core of shorter length than said sight tube removably fitted in the rear end of said tube and having a central longitudinal bore of smaller diameter than the internal bore of said si ght tube, and a bifurcated sight mem bell; in the forward extremity of said sight tu e.
3. The combination with a firearm, of a sight tube of approximately the same length 5 as the barrel of the said firearm and attached to said barrel and parallel with relation thereto, a core removably inserted in the rear end portion of said sight tube and having a longitudinal bore the rear end of which is flared or enlarged, and a bifurlo cated sight member mounted within the forward end portion of said sight tube.
