Description

D. GUARDINO.
CONTAINER.
APPLICATION FILED DEC.28,1918.

WITNESSES I mvm on W ATTORNEYS DIEGO GUARDINO, 0F BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
CONTAINER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 8, 1919.
Application filed December 28, 1918. Serial No. 268,688.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it know'nthatI, DIEGO GUARDINQ, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Container, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of the invention is to provide a new and improved container of paper or similar sheet material and more especially designed for containing charlotte russe, ice cream and other confections and materials. Another object is to provide a container made from a single piece or blank of flat or sheet material to allow convenient shipping and storing of the blanks until needed by the user. Another object is to enable the user to. quickly form the blank into the container. Another object is to provide a con-. tainer having a conical body and a bottom securely fastened in position intermediate the top and bottom edges of the body.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction as hereinafter shown and described and then specifically pointed out in the claims.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
'Figure 1 is a plan view of the container;
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same;
Fig. 3 is a sectional side elevation of the same on the line 33 of Fig. 1; and
Fig. 4: is a plan view of the blank for forming the container.
The container is formed from a single piece of stiff paper or other sheet material of segmental form to provide a conical body 10 maintained in this shape by a hook 11 formed on one end of the piece and engaging a radial slot 12 formed near the other end of the single piece. I further provided with a bottom 15 located a distance above the bottom edge of the body 10 and this bottom 15 has a portion 16 of its peripheral face integral with the end 17 of the single piece, as plainly shown in Fig. 4-. The bottom 15 is provided with a lug 18 extending outwardly from the peripheral face of the bottom diametrically opposite the attached portion 16, and this lug 18 ex- The container is tends through a slot 19 formed horizontally in the body 10 inter-mediate the slot 12 and the hook 11.
In forming the container from the single piece it is only necessary to bend the single piece into conical form and to bend the bottom 15 into an'approximately right-angled position relative to the sheet and to engage the lug 18 with the slot 19 while forming the piece into the conical body. The user also engages the hook 11 with the slot 12 so as to maintain the body in conical shape with the lug 18 of the bottom 15 projecting through the slot 19 thus securely supporting the bottom 15 at diametrically opposite points, that is, at the attached portion 16 and the lug 18 resting on the bottom of the slot 19.
It will be noticed that by the arrangement described the ends of the singlepiece over lap to form a close. joint and the bottom 15 closely fits into the body a distance above the bottom edge thereof and as the bottom is firmly supported at diametrically opposite ends and its peripheral edge fits against the inner surface of the conical body 10 a distance above the bottom or small end of the conical body it is evident that the bottom is not liable to be pressed downward by the weight of the material placed in the container.
It will also be noticed that a large hum-- her of the blanks of which the container is made can be packed one on top of the other to allow of conveniently shipping or storing such blanks without taking up much room.
"It will further be noticed that the user can readily bend the blank into a conical body and place the bottom in position as above described.
Having thus described my invention, 1 claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A container made of a single piece of sheet material, comprising a conical body and a bottom, the body having a hook and having a slot disposed in a vertical plane and engaged by the said hook to maintain the body in conical shape, the said bottom having a portion of its periphery integral with the side of the body at a point a distance above the bottom edge of the body, the said bottom having an integral lug diametrically opposite the said attached portion and the said body having a horizontal 10 said hook to lock the conical body iii set up position, the said bottom having a portion of its edge integral With the said body at a point intermediate the inner and outer edges of the body, and the said bottom being provided opposite the said integral portion with an outwardly extending lug, the said body having a lengthwise extending slot intermediate its ends and adapted to be engaged by the said bottom lug.
