Be it known that l, WILLIAM: HENRY J1-innerer, residing at 11.3 Villeneuve street, in the city and District of Montreal, in the Province of Quebec, in the Dominion `of Canada, have invented new and useful Detachable Footwearlreads, of which the following is the specification.v

The invention relates to detachable heels and soles as described in the present speciii cation and illustrated in the accompanying drawings that form part of the same.

The invention consists essentially of the novel formation and arrangement of plates and catches whereby the strain on the fas tening tends toward more security in the attachment.

The objects of the invention are to econo mize in regard to the wear and tear of the tread portions offootwear; to furnish a heel which can be readily changed and interchanged bythe person wearing the slices;

`to insure-cheapness in the construction of the` fastener parts so that the heel may be sold at a reasonable priceto the consumer; to facilitate the manufacture of shoe parts, and generally to provide a reliable, durable and efficient heel. 4

`Referring to the drawings, the fastening device is shown as formed of the inner plate 1 for detachable heel purposes and outer plate 2, While for the sole it is formed of the inner plate 3 and outer plate 4t.

The inner plate 1 is secured to the heel perspective detail of the spring 5 by the screws 6 and in the said heel 5 the `Specification of Letters Patent.`

nel is at its deepest. At each side of the channel 7 intermediate of vthe distance to the edge of the heelthe recesses 8 and 9 are made from the bottomof the heel 5. The plate 1 is cut out to form the slots 1()` and 11 over the recesses 8 and 9 respectively and the slot 12 over `the channel toward the front of the heel 5.

The spring locking bar 13 is riveted to the plate 1 on the inner side and is formed with the offset catch la, which partially ills in,

the slot 12 in its normal position. lThe bar 13 is upwardly turned at the end 15 and fits neatly flush with the heel front wall in the opening to the channel 7.

The outer plate 2 of the fastening is formed with the hook catches 16, 17, and 18, and the barbs 19,20, and 21. Thehoolrs 16 and 17 engage the plate 1 at the front edges of the slots l() and 11, and the hook 18 at the front end of the slot 12, but the spring catch must first be depressed automatically by hook 13 to enter the slot 12, though after it is hooked the said spring catch falls in behind the hook 18 and locks it and in consequence the other hooks 16 and 17 are locked. g

The plate 2 is stamped out with the recesses 10, 11, and 12 as explained, and also with the vbarb-shape projections 22, 23 and 24. These barbs are forced into the leather tread 25 and hold the plate 2 firmly thereto without the necessity of other fasteners.

The detachable sole 26 is fitted on in similar fashion, the outer plate 4e havingy Vthe forwardly projecting hooks 27, 28, and 29 and the barbs 30, the inner plate 3 being stamped out with the hook slots 31, -32 and 33. The middle sole 34 is a permanent part of the shoe and is channeled at 35` in front of the shank 36, the slot 33 leading into the channel 35, when the plate 3 is attached to the permanent sole 34e by the'stamped out barb fasteners 36 or in any other suitable manner. p

The spring locking bar 37 is riveted to the plate 3 and extends along the channel 35.

The ofl'set 38 in said bar 37 springs through the slot 33 and forms acatch behind the hook 29 of the plate l1.

The plate 11 is secured to the tread 26 by the barbs 30, and is preferably of leather, likewise the heel tread, though it must be understood that theyk may be of any suitable material and further that the.l claim following sets forth .the novel features of the construction as it may develop-from time to time in its commercial use.

In detachable footwear treads,a detachable member formed of a metal plate and the tread proper, said metal plate being f formed Withbarbs proj eoting into'said tread proper and hooks, a permanent member oomprismg an upper portlon and a plate, both Y being provided with registering holes said latter plate having barbs projecting into the upper portion, said hooks of the first named plate being Constructed and arranged to )ass into said holes and engage the second plate, and a locking tongue having an offset to enter one of said holes and in the rear of a liool; to lock the saine and thereby look the plates.
